They should modify further to send Farmland and Luxmanor back to WJ. And just give Woodward to those who need it most…. |
No, it is now on you to start a change dot org petition to cry foul for WJ getting a half of the high FARMS school. Also, start a barrage of posts on DCUM pretending to be concerned VMES families. |
Wrong. They have the most projected student growth if you paid attention to the work session today. It was very well done. Wheaton is where the kids are. |
You can keep saying this all you want but it does not silence the emails or the views of VMES. |
The supposed “walk zone” requires crossing Randolph rd, viers mill rd, and Connecticut. I would never want to let a 14/15 year old walk that route |
FARMS balance |
| What VMES needs is a savvy realtor to lead the charge. |
WJ from 15.3 to 17.7 Wheaton from 59.2 to 58.7 Woodward from 35.2 to 32.2 Did it move the needle that much? I agree it basically just moves around utilization rates without much change to farms. I guess a smidge but nothing meaningful worth breaking up communities over. |
VMES family here (no not a fake one). Yes, remember that poor kid that was hit last September from the baseball team? Feel so bad for his family. I never let my kids walk that area now |
Northwood? They are already in. |
| And we’ve had kids die riding bikes on Old Georgetown but are still expected to walk to Woodward. |
15.3 to 17.7 ??? That WJ poster will get a heart attack. |
It's not a meaningful farms difference. What is happening is that they inflated the capacity of Wheaton HS by 500 seats over what is in the CIP for that school. So the Superintendent's recommendation actually leaves Wheaton HS over capacity. Adding half of Viers Mill would make this worse. In two years they will cry about how overcrowded Wheaton is and how the Council MUST fund an expansion of Edison HS (next door) for overflow. They will say this was promised to them, but it should never have been promised with the current fiscal situation. There is plenty of capacity in existing buildings, and the walk from Viers Mill to Wheaton is not safe. Everyone is better off with them getting a bus to another school with actual capacity. |
Some communities will be breaking up in all scenarios. |
| Are there slides so we can see the actual proposal? |
