You don't speak for the majority. Our worries will decline when we see progress being made on hiring and vacancies are decreasing. |
Where did I say that I did? Oh, and just in the last few days of your frenetic postings, the Art position was filled! Woo! Crisis averted! |
Neither do you. |
You must be referring to your own posts. There never even was an art position that was open so you are also uninformed. You should go busy yourself with your great summer plans Xanax lady. |
| DP, but looking at the open positions at Navy gives me a glimmer of hope. I heard there were more people hired than leaving, so are those additional classroom teacher positions for the grades that are overcrowded? Because if admin can fill 24 vacant positions AND find extra teachers on top of that to lower the class sizes, they would be a hero in my eyes. Some of those class sizes are absolutely ridiculous. |
That’s not how it works. FCPS uses a formula based on the specific total school population to determine how many teachers can be hired at each school. And then the principal can place them accordingly. But often they don’t qualify for an additional teacher and one upper grade level that is larger can suffer as a result. The state cap for grades 4-6 is 35. For Grades 1-3 it’s lower. Priority is given to lower grades with regards to class sizes. |
I wish you the best. I’m sorry the vacancies have you so worried that you feel the need to lash out. I’ll be back on August 19 to say I told you so. Everything is going to work out. |
Lucky you. Given the demographics of the school as the largest plurality is Asian, our community tends to value education. If the score goes down, there will be exodus. |
At what threshold will you sell, pack up and leave? What score on what test is considered too low for your “community.”Would love to hear specifics. PS - those who value education know the SOLs are BS. |
But buyers see scores on great schools and other places and buy accordingly. |
Perhaps previous poster is just here living temporarily renting a townhome or something and is not vested in the community, hence their lack of interest and general disinterested attitude towards education. |
| Update: Librarian position has been filled! |
Yes I just came on here to say that. Librarian is probably one of the lesser important but at least it is some progress. esol is probably the least important. |
ESOL is the least important? Wow. |
Our school doesn't have many esol kids. The esol teacher would usually work with kids that spoke perfect English but also spoke a second language at home and these kids needed extra help with reading. In the many years my kids have been at our school we have only encountered 2 kids that didn't speak much English. Also, young kids pick up a new language very easily. Signed, parent and former esol kid. |
