It’s pretty obvious who it is. Can’t wait for the lawsuits to start. Hope they realize that there are FCC regs governing political texts and election interference. I may reach out to the turner campaign offering free legal advice. She’s smart though and probably already on it.

A twitter thread linking to other twitter posts doesn’t violate election rules. Nice try.

Reading comprehension, folks. PP referenced the text messages that are being sent to community members which suspiciously overlap with many members of a certain group.

I'm not "Deep Throat".

I just learned this afternoon that MT is married to a Youngkin/Asra/Ian Prior groupie.

The document in question mentions several non-public figures and is being circulated by someone using the pseudonym "Deep Throat". If Mr. or Ms. Throat would like to identify themselves, posters will be free to link to the document. But, short of that, I will remove any such links.

I'd encourage Mr. or Ms. Throat to identify themselves too but I think it's relevant, and I wouldn't characterize the board members of an org that is one candidate's brainchild (Miranda is literally a founder) as "non-public figures," especially when one of them is her campaign manager and they're all public tweets and quotes from APE's website. It raises some very valid character issues. I for one found it shocking. I mean I knew there were some strange bedfellows with Miranda, but it seems like her whole universe is Rs with really out-of-the-mainstream ideas.

I'd suggest a review of the matter since I feel it's more than fair game but I guess all I'll say is people can look for themselves if interested on Twitter @/protectarled but not linking anything without your say so, message received.

I suspect you know exactly who set up that Twitter because it’s you. Even if everything on there was true (and it is not), none of it is anything Miranda Turner said or did. It’s all slimy insinuations and smears that are very tenuously linked to the actual candidate.

No some of it was exactly what Miranda said/did. It was the positions APE took when she led APE. That is her record and it is relevant to this campaign. Maybe Mr./Ms. Throat could repost that part. It shouldn't be controversial.

Agree that her husband's political views are not relevant. I still think the public statements made by the APE board members and Miranda's campaign manager are fair game. They put them out there, why can't we talk about them?

Interesting. I haven't heard anything about her husband's political views. Is she married to a Trumper? If so, that shows questionable judgment.

LOL. You think everyone knows how their future spouse's political views are going to evolve over the years? Or do you expect MT and others to divorce their spouses because they came to support Trump? People's views do change over time. I'd say my spouse was more conservative when we met and married (certainly more than I); but they have become more liberal as they've aged and experienced this social environment. Does that mean my judgement is questionable? I suspect not. I suspect it only works in the other direction, when the spouse becomes too conservative.

"Being conservative" in 2023 means something different than it did 10-20 years ago.

It's a major character flaw. I can't imagine being married to someone who actually believes all of that nonsense.

So where do the candidates stand on standards based grading?

APE asked about it in the candidate questionnaire: https://www.arlingtonparentsforeducation.org/school-board-2023. Only Miranda answered. Looks like Angelo didn't bother responding at all. Sounds par for the course. He's a no show at the advisory committee meetings, a no show at at least two forums, no show at his own election, and not bothering to engage with a community group. Whether you like APE or not, not responding is not the action of a community leader who wants to work with everyone.

Maybe that's because there is no separation between APE and MT's campaign? He might as well stop by the Turner family reunion to campaign. And APE has constantly criticized APS for standards-based grading. Just like the missing middle people, they always claim to be opposed to "the process" when anyone proposes something progressive. Frankly, I think it's principled to not respond to APE's questionnaire. I don't want a community leader that touches such a divisive group even with a 10-foot pole.

Agreed. APE is a LOBBYING GROUP. They have been trying to get Miranda elected for years. They may as well be her personal PAC. Angelo is smart to not answer their little questionnaire. He answered the AGIA questionnaire and did a dang good job with it too.

People keep putting him down for his age but he's proving himself to be savvy.

APE derangement runs deep. What is wrong with their "little" questionnaire?

From Miranda's page, it looks like they asked about 1) Remedying subsitute (Gasp!); 2) Standards-based grading (pearl clutch); 3) Reducing class sizes (Pass the smelling salts!); 4) Learning Loss and Achievement gaps (Dastardly!) 5) device usage at schools (villians!)

https://static1.squarespace.com/static/6041ba6620a81d18855bdb62/t/64512b38322df0273fd9abe7/1683041080616/APE+Miranda+Turner+Responses+April+2023.docx.pdf

It's 5 questions. Written responses. Seems like a fair arrangement so that there was an equal playing field. He could have asked Reid to do his homework for him if he was too busy finishing his finals.

He could have but he didn't want to play APE's game. Good for him. APE isn't a legit org. They're a lobbying group, and right now they exist to elect Miranda.

He answered the AGIA questions so it's not like he's against answering questions from a LEGIT group.

I also heard from ACDC peeps that APE asked for a debate and AC turned them DOWN. Never got confirmation though, so I don't know if APE ever wanted a debate and didn't get it, or if it's just a rumor. I agree PP, I'd say it's a power move and APE just doesn't like when they're spurned.

That APE questionnaire was a "power move?" And just what "power" do you think it has? They put out something to address the issues they want addressed. The opponent chose not to respond - when responding would have given him a prime opportunity to distinguish himself/his views on the very specific topics everyone is so critical of APE for.

I'm pretty sure, actually, that APE put it out on its FB page for people to ask questions they wanted asked of the candidates. They also survey members to select priorities. So it's a pretty democratic process.

As for astroturfing, if you watch what they are doing, they actually ARE advocating for more transparency, etc. They pushed for the dashboard. They are asking APS to show more data. This is a real thing the org does.

Thanks, Jeff, for deleting the other link and explaining why. I clicked on it, and that was some crazy conspiracy stuff, that, again, mostly boiled down to the fact that Turner has friends who are Republicans.

DP. You’re minimizing her relationships. She partnered with them for years. One works at a Koch think tank. And you’re overlooking the bullying/vitriol that she found acceptable.

blah blah blah

We'll find out soon enough if Arlington is as concerned about a mid-level guy at GMU or think she is to answer for other's behavior. Can we retire this if she wins?

If she wins and she's on the school board, then her ties to RWNJs are even more relevant. I'd like to know who our school members are beholden to, and who we can thank if our school board stops standing up to Youngkin nonsense.

One member isn't going to turn the entire board around and change the entire course of APS' direction. And if she turns out to be that awful, nobody else of her ilk will be elected to join her on the board and she won't be re-elected; and we'll all go back to the liberal sheep herd mentality "leading" our schools.

DP. I'd be open to a more conservative SB member, but draw the line at someone who was a central figure in a group that created such animosity in our community.

NP. Are you saying we should never advocate alongside someone unless we agree 100%? The dude works for a GMU think tank that receives limited funding from Koch (like many other museums and other great causes). Looks like a libertarian group. Hardly worthy of the insinuations of your post.

I wouldn’t advocate and partner with people who were all out abusive to others in our community. In the same community she’s seeking a public office.

Sounds like you should vote for MT. Angelo’s supporters are interfering in an election and posting conspiracy theories under an anonymous account. He is aligned with them unless he denounces them and demands them to reveal their names and state the truth.

Just to be clear, there are no Angelo supporters. There are only Miranda haters.

Haven’t you learned dcum logic by now? Facts don’t matter. MT haters are conspiracy haters who like to create fake accounts to spread lies. They are abusive and want her to lose. Angelo also wants MT lose….ipso facto angelo is spreading lies and aligning himself with those crazies. No thank you. Will not support conspiracy theorist interfering in a misinformation campaign to internet w the election.

I can't tell if you are bat sh*t crazy or if this is satire, it's that bad.

Miranda attracts MAGAs, RWNJs, angry dad bros, and DCUM crazies. What does that tell you?

To the editor: We are writing to express our enthusiastic support for Miranda Turner to receive the Democratic endorsement for the Arlington School Board election.

We have been elementary-school tutors for disadvantaged Arlington and D.C. students. We have witnessed the severe extent that the last few years have significantly diminished literacy and widened equity gaps. Our current reality is that Arlington has kids in fourth and fifth grade who are functionally illiterate. Instead of reading to learn, they are still struggling with learning to read.

Turner’s No. 1 priority is rightly on instruction. She advocates for an all-hands-on-deck approach to support classroom educators in their effort to reverse this trend. She supports increased instructional time, interventionists, tutoring and after-school and summer programs to counter the attainment gaps in literacy and numeracy.

Turner supports both equity and excellence. She recognizes that we must address achievement gaps and ensure that Arlington maintains high standards. Every student should be given the opportunity, access and support to reach his or her highest potential with advanced/accelerated classes.

Turner is a longtime Arlington resident and ardent APS volunteer, serving in several roles. She has a personal stake in school-system performance with three children. She is a successful attorney and community advocate. We are lucky she enthusiastically wants to serve on the School Board to help our community.

If you are an Arlington Democrat, please join us in supporting Miranda in the upcoming caucus.

Sam and Debbie Kirzner, Arlington

I think he is APE so no surprise. Her APE supporters are her base. We already knew that.

He's a retired guy in ArlDems who volunteers in the community. Try again.

Anti-APE folks just can't believe that a democrat was/is/could be a member of APE, can they?
I don't know if the people who signed the letter were/were not or are/are not part of APE. And I really don't care. But I"ll take their perspective as outlined in their letter more credibly than that of someone so anti-APE that they can't believe anyone but a MAGA republican could align with the group, and who can't move beyond it.

What are you talking about? I am no fan of APE but no one is saying that APE is all MAGA Republicans. There are some Dems in APE, there are a lot of DINOs in there, there are a lot of Republicans in there, there are Rs who voted in the last Dem caucus, and then there are the MAGA Republicans in there.

There are enough Rs in APE that they aligned with Republican positions during the pandemic. For instance, they were the only Arlington group that I can think of that didn't support our school board when it stood up to the overreaching by Youngkin in his politicized exec order prohibiting masking during the Omicrom surge.

Yes, standing in 2023, it's obvious that the mask mandate was the only thing between us and certain death and destruction. Are you really out here still fighting for masks?

There we go. APE tough guy ready to throw down about masks.

Nice job electing a POS republican just so you could drop the masks one month early. Way to ruin it for everyone.

You are so out of touch that you don't realize that most Dems now agree the mask mandates were irrelevant. You're still out there fighting old battles that don't even matter.

It doesn’t matter now. It didn’t matter one month after you elected Youngkin.

The point was that Republicans politicized covid/masks/vaccines/school openings/CRT/bathrooms/etc. Instead of rationally these topics, we get bullies, many Republican, who were trying to force their beliefs on everyone else.

In 2023, that is relevant because we have POS R governor because of this politicization. And we have a SB candidate who stood by and watched all of that nastiness go down in her group and thought that was acceptable.

There you go again, trying to blame Miranda Turner for all of your political grievances.

I’m holding her accountable for her own actions.

She chose to lead that group and to continue leading that group.

We get it. Sounds like she doesn't need your votes.

She picked up Matt de Ferranti today

But this one from an ASHPA leader is something else.

https://twitter.com/Miranda4APS/status/1651951652117663745?s=20

Do these people actually vet candidates before they give their endorsement?

Do they really want to support someone with a Youngkin/Nomani/Prior supporting husband?

So embarrassing.

You realize this is the DC area, right? Do you know how common these types of marriages are? No one cares but you.

You should be happy for MT. She got a Youngkin voter to support a Democrat, after all

That doesn't mean anything. Republicans are voting in the caucus anyway.

Correct, she got a Youngkin voter to support a DINO.

So being a Dem precinct captain and doing pro-bono for Planned Parenthood was just part of the plan to infiltrate the school board? She’s a Dem.

Not that much of a Dem if she's married to a person who supports Youngkin, Ian Prior, Asra Nomani, etc.

Certainly not Dem enough for ACDC endorsement.

And now here come the unfounded attacks on Smart Restart. I was part of Smart Restart. SR is not really active anymore. It was a group of teachers and parents that advocated for safety measures during the pandemic, like hepa filters and lunch outside. We thought these things were common sense measures to get schools open, keep schools open, and keep teachers and kids healthy. We didn't realize they would be controversial. Most parents saw the logic and supported them. We thought the parents in APE might join with us, to get schools open. But our advocacy only infuriated APE and they attacked SR members mercilessly. I guess we were really naive because we didn't see that coming. At least I was naive back then. It was my first rodeo, so they say in APS advocacy. The attacks on teachers and parents were really vicious and ugly -- doxxing, online bullying, trying to hurt people's professions. They even contacted teacher's principals based on innocuous comments teachers online. I mean, who does that to teachers?!?

I have absolutely no idea who this Deep Throat person is. I'm just as curious as anyone else but I sure know it has nothing to do with Smart Restart. I assume the poster who is smearing SR is the same person or group who did all of this to parents and teachers in SR two years ago. It's truly ugly and I wish they would stop, but they can't or won't.

You know who publicly trashed SR on Twitter? MT's spouse.

Are you just responding to yourself over and over? Are the crazies that post here even on the APE page or get their newsletter? It’s seriously the most normal arlington Facebook group out there. They actually put the work in to make APS better. Ive never seen any hint of the accusations made on this thread. I encourage everyone to check it out for themselves. And I don’t really care what posters here claim they or their supporters did 3 years ago. Not every crazy person during the pandemic was APE. In fact they probably weren’t and they can’t control every parent that was upset about their kids suffering at home. I say this as an APS employee - most of us have moved on and agree with APE more than the school board. I hope Miranda wins. She deserves it and will be a champion for teachers and students. Frankly don’t care less if she’s married to someone who has criticized democrats. Get real, folks. She’s representing planned parenthood in an abortion rights case and is a democratic precinct captain. Ya’ll have lost your minds.

This isn't exactly correct. SR actually would not let people be members of both APE and SR. So I don't think it's fair to say they wanted to work together.

But this was a mad, mad time, and it would be nice if people could stop the crazy and move on.

Reading comprehension, folks. PP referenced the text messages that are being sent to community members which suspiciously overlap with many members of a certain group.

Exactly. I’m getting campaign texts every single day. Not getting any from deep throat. How did deep throat get certain numbers and how are they robotexting? Deep throat is the problem and not the person who received the texts.

There are multiple people posting. I'm responding to someone else.

The hostile/crazy people posting right now (and during the pandemic) are/were APE.

She represents PP while her husband votes away women's rights. Nice.
