Usha Vance - Fashion Thread

Anonymous
This thread has become totally boring with the arguing. I love the fashion commentary, and appreciate that everyone has different views (like the inaugural gown -- I can see having a difference of opinion on that, or the pink wool coat). But the person or people who just want to constantly repost that she should cover her greys (which she clearly doesn't want to do, so let's move on), and those who are arguing about whether it's even fair to discuss fashion, are ruing the whole thread.

Doesn't change what it is, though. You can shout down and insult posters here if you want, but people all over are still talking about it. A better use of the energy is just to get a stylist for formal appearances and do better.

All this frantic defense to make her feel better just makes her look more out of place and thin-skinned. Sad.

Yep. No excuses for looking unpolished and messy.

That’s good, considering she didn’t/doesn’t. I’d love to see a photo of you.

Oh, I'm frumpy as hell. But game recognizes game (frump recognizes frump?).

There is no way I'd go in public like this at her level of notoriety, especially if I had her money and resources.

And miss me with "They aren't Trump wealthy!" He's a venture capitalist with a bestselling book he sold for movie rights and she's a big law partner. They aren't the podunk "Aw Shucks! We're just moving to DC to help folks like you!" couple from Cincinnati that they pretend to be. They don't even live in Cincinnati because Usha, salt of the earth that she is, said Ohio public schools weren't good enough for her kids. JD wrote an op-ed about this! They lived in Alexandria before the Vice Presidency!

Agreed. She's the only one who looks like a normal human on that page. Trump looks like...Trump, FLOTUS is airbrushed beyond recognition and JD looks like he's holding in a fart. She's the only one who looks like she MIGHT be a decent person.

I like the grey, refreshing.

Looking like crap isn’t refreshing.

She doesn’t look like crap. Damn, what is wrong with you?

+100
I would be thrilled to look like her!

The only people insulting others are those who are calling her ugly and stupid, and those who are mocking anyone who dares to say she looks great (which she does). Maybe consider it is you who is grossly out of place for so vehemently criticizing someone who actually looks perfectly lovely. Don’t you have some seams of your own to obsess over?

Nobody called her stupid or ugly. They recommended she work with a stylist and a dermatologist. Both perfectly normal things to do as a person in the limelight like this. You’re taking this insanely personally. Why?

That's how much of a rookie/unprepared she is for her role, she doesn't even have a headshot for the White House website.

She does indeed have a headshot on that page.

The single point of interest this dress/outfit has are those seams. That's it. So, with that being the focal point, you'd think someone would've cared enough about the one detail the dress had to pay attention to making sure it was correct.

They used a hack photographer using a canned headshot pose. I have had my picture taken in this awkward pose - she is sitting on an uncomfortable stool, her body is seated with her knees pointing to the right, but her upper body is twisted slightly to face the photographer. She had no chance with that dress and this pose. A good photographer would have known better and taken the picture with her standing up. That doesn't excuse the color of her dress, but the pose is the reason the seams aren't straight and her breasts look crooked. I blame the photographer or whoever insisted she sit down for the headshot.

She is standing up in this picture.

No she is leaning against a stool.

No she is not. How would you even know that? She’s standing up straight.
DP

She's definitely standing. Pp who pretends she is a portrait expert is just wrong.

+1
That PP is hilariously self-serious.

This is actually a big challenge for south Asian women. A lot of the treatments you reference don’t work with darker skin.

Earlier in the thread, someone (or multiple people) did indeed call her both ugly and stupid for not being styled in a way those posters deemed acceptable. Perhaps those comments have been deleted - I certainly hope so. Because she is definitely neither ugly nor stupid and seems happy and confident in all of her looks. Which she should be.

You’re welcome to make absurd criticisms of her, but please don’t think they deserve to go unchallenged. Many of us think she looked fabulous and will continue to say so.

How does having more even skin tone relate to her duties as Second Lady?

Duties? What will she do? Replace pillow cushions at the house?

The VP and spouse do very little.

I’ve had various discoloration issues since I was teen, and it’s been my experience that most of cosmetic dermatology is aimed at white skin not the various shades of brown skin.

💯 also dealing with this and have come to the realization that I need to find a dermatologist of color.

I followed this thread from the beginning and this just didn’t happen. You’re obviously an incredibly political person and can’t participate in an objective discussion re her lack of style and general frump, so why bother?

I have been popping into this thread although I didn't read it religiously. There were nasty toned posts calling her a pain jane and saying only white people would find her attractive.

BTW, Usha Vance has been a DMV resident for a while and as a young mother there's a good chance she's aware of DCUM and if she's reading this thread:

Ignore all the naysayers. You looked fabulous and I look forward to watching you develop your own fashion identity and style while keeping up with the demands of your new role.

What?! I didn’t see a post saying only white people would find her attractive. I did see a few posts calling her plain but that was in response to people insisting she was the most beautiful woman to walk the earth. And even so, saying someone is “plain” is not nasty!

The majority of posts in this thread have said she is pretty and thin but could benefit from a stylist. Why are you taking this so personally?
