But social media is oppressing her with the heteropatriarchy! She can't leave her house for fear of being identified.

That ball has no value other than the sentimental value. And it is absolutely a first-come, first-serve situation! Any mature adult would have seen where he was going with it and been like "oh good--it's for his kid" and felt pretty good about the whole situation. She behaved badly.

ALL THAT BEING SAID, I completely agree that the online harassment and doxxing has become a terrifying cultural phenomenon and no one deserves it. But if you generally behave like a normal, respectful human being, it is unlikely to happen to you.

He was absolutely WRONG.. It was her ball. He could have asked for it after the fact explaining it was his son's birthday but it was not in his section and it was in hers. I can understand why she was upset and she had every right to be.

Why is it ok for a man to do this?

Just own up and apologize already, this can’t be anyone other than the ball stealer.

There is no rule that the ball belongs to a section. The ball belongs to whomever gets their hands on it first.

She won fair and square. Why are the men so het up that a woman had the balls to confront someone and get the ball she wanted? If it's a "no rules, whoever wins wins" situation then -- she won. Good for her.

She didn’t win anything. Everyone who attends baseball games knows that until and unless someone has full possession of the ball, it’s fair game. The dad gave her the ball because she was acting unstable and he wanted to show his kids it’s better to deescalate the situation. The fact that she was female had zero to do with it. It had everything to do with her acting like a raving lunatic.

+1 Bet she has a significant mental health history. Very much a raving lunatic!

No crazier than a grown man RUNNING into someone else's seating area to get a baseball.

Have you never been to a baseball game?! It’s always a free for all for balls hit into the stands.

I guess if it’s a free for all then it’s fine for her to reclaim it.

Or maybe it’s just a free for all…for men.

You’re being deliberately obtuse to make this into something misogynistic. When the ball is hit into the stands it’s free game for everyone, especially in the area where not all the seats are full. When one person emerges with the ball that’s it, game over. Especially when the ball was given to a kid. This lady was completely unhinged and it’s not misogynistic to say that.

Signed, 46 year old woman who doesn’t feel the need to defend everyone who also has a vagina.

The public’s reaction to this woman is way over the top and 100% has misogynistic undertones. It’s fine for the man to aggressively go for it in a “free for all” but not the woman. You wouldn’t call a guy in the same situation unhinged or a Karen. You’d just call him angry and entitled. Heck, it probably wouldn’t even make the news. Look at the language that MAGAs have used recently about older white women. This totally tracks.

The lady was way over the top to go running over to this guy and put her hands on him. She then continued yelling and pointing her finger in the guy’s face. Even after she saw the ball had been given to a kid, she still took the ball back. Then when people booed her she got in another guy’s face and flipped everyone in the section off. That is acting unhinged. I know that doesn’t fit the narrative you are trying to make happen here, but those are the facts. Dudes have also been called out publicly multiple times for stealing balls or other sports souvenirs from kids. Let it go, she is not worth the defense you are insistent on giving her.

I’m not defending her. I’m saying her crappy behavior is not commensurate with the extreme public response. The misogynistic undertones are also gross.

The public response has not been any different than the response to the Polish guy that took the hat from the kid at the US Open a few days before. Bad behavior is bad behavior regardless of whether it’s a man or woman.

I haven’t even heard of this guy. Not the same level of attention.

He was doxxed because men are valued in society and their lives are noteworthy on the Internet. Women aren't valued and therefore receive little attention on social media.

It’s way more than just misogyny- it’s like people get off on judging and aggressively hunting down manufactured villains.

Use that energy for good, people. Use that energy to protest against the actual villains, like Trump.

Most women are kind and nurturing and would never even think of taking a ball from a kid. That's why her aggressive behavior is so shocking to many of us. No woman I know would ever act like that, and some of them were outstanding athletes in college who could take on a guy.

Exactly how is that post misogyny? You think most women would take a ball back from a kid? You don't think most women are kind and nurturing?
