Not at all - I think everyone is missing the point that there were no assets. Literally none. Personal possessions as in clothes and a few watches but everything else is debt. You don’t need a will for that

Wow, I hadn't thought of it that way, but I think you're right. That's so incredible to me you could appear to be so wealthy but actually have nothing but debt to your name. If the PP is right 330k and a mortgaged to the hilt house is like solidly middle class in terms of assets.

I’m guessing his classic cars, couple of Rolexes, maybe some golf clubs? For a supposed “real estate mogul,” that’s nothing.

It’s just incredible how people can spend so much money and have nothing to show for it. This woman’s $800 weekly facials and wildly expensive fitness routine make her look and feel nice, sure. But where is the investment for your family’s future? Why not buy some non-luxury rental properties to get some steady passive income? The money was spent on living large but there’s nothing material to show for it.

And yet she will be fine. They lived like billionaires for years, a life of total luxury, and she will be 100% fine, remarry a rich guy. There is NO justice in this world. Honest women work all day, every day and will never know many of the pleasures and leisure she experienced.

I wouldn't trade my "regular" life with my husband and two adult kids for any part of that lifestyle. It sounds like pure HE ...LL to me to go to bed every night knowing that you were so far in debt, that your financial life was a sham, and that you were taking advantage of other people and their money.

I don't know how you even enjoy all this stuff knowing it's probably going to catch up to you one day. I'd be an anxious mess all the time, not exactly relaxing at an 800 dollar facial when there's 8k in the bank.

PP here. +1 Exactly!!

Hamptons properties generally take quite a bit of time to sell. She should rent it out and see if she could live off that income until she figures some of her life out.

I feel no sympathy for her, her DH, and his parents. I feel sympathy for the kids.

How is what they've been doing not a criminal matter? This sounds like the stuff of Bernie Madoff or Sam Bankman-Fried. Scam artists who stole money from others under the guise of investments.

I also feel sympathy for the people who invested with them. They're the victims of financial fraud.

Same.

Separately I was surprised that Von Furstenburg offered to let her stay in the $10M Miami condo, apparently for free. It is a big gift, and all the living large caused the problems.

And I am surprised she accepted the free stay in the $10M Miami condo, as this is a significant gift from friends and it may also require other spending to keep up that lifestyle, all which contributed to the original problems.

I knew she was friends with Ali Kay but didn’t know they were THAT close. That’s a huge gift.

She needs to be close to that lifestyle to snag a new rich husband. Gotta spend money to marry money! Although where that money is coming from I have no idea. Even if she got rid of the nannies and maids and drivers, how is she paying for groceries and Ubers and all the little things she and the girls need? I’m assuming a family member is paying their tuition.

The summer season is over for rentals. And she needs the cash now for the debts.

She needs to rent a very modest home or apt, get a regular job, sell all their furnishings except for basics, dtive a Dave Ramsey recommended old car, and do her best to pay back borrowed money.

I honestly think for someone in her position the best bet is to blow out all her cash as bigly as possibly, fake the glamour some more, find another rich, older Jewish man (there are plenty in both Miami and NYC) and marry again. Paying off one's debt slowly and gradually is for middle class suckers. In the big money crowd they declare bankruptcy casually and with impunity, borrow money and grift until they find another jackpot. That's probably what she'll do and it's a lot smarter than moving to Wisconsin into a small suburban home, getting a job at the local dental office and paying off her debt in hundred dollar installments

That's right, go big or go home! She's in good company with fellow big money bankcorrupts. Maybe she can grift her way into The White House.

It's about integrity and values, but I understand that some people don't get that and think it's fine to bilk others.

She might not have known every detail, but I doubt she was totally clueless. He had a long decline before killing himself, it would be hard to ignore that.
