MAGA is killing the country. No hope. It’s just so sad. We are ceding our leadership in the world, in economics and freedom. Totally depressed

Meh. He was so unappealing lthat I think the publicity is likely to just give more energy to the left to produce better and more genial influencers. I had never seen his face before this or listened to him talk. Not impressed at all.

Democrats/liberals/progressives etc. do need to produce better influencers and have more grassroots support … or even astroturfed support lol … but when we do, we get attacked by useful idiots like Taylor Lorenz. Can’t win.

Meanwhile the far right gets kids from a very young age when they aren’t even old enough to discern propaganda and biased reporting. My 10 year old loves watching people’s gaming videos on YouTube. He especially loves strategy and war type games, mixed in with clips of older shows and movies like The Simpsons. Guess what else his algorithm was showing him? PragerU. Their videos were just coming up for him mixed with everything else. I blocked their channel and a few others. Now imagine how many parents have no idea what PragerU even is or that their kids are being served RW biased videos all the time, wrapped up in nice production value and disguised as educational children’s content.

Yeah maybe don't let him watch YT

That’s not the point. The point is this stuff is out there and for every person like me who’s aware of it, there are 10 who aren’t, or who are just happy their kids are watching something educational/newsy and aren’t actually listening to what the videos are saying.

My child was getting PragerU vids as well. And he complained about it.

Thank you, just blocked PragerU and Tuttle Twins. Any others I need to block for my kids?

This is not going to work. Once they’re on social media you have no idea/control over what they’re seeing. Get them off social media and, yes, You Tube is social media and just as bad as the rest.

I think a purge night for political nut jobs on both sides would be perfect to weed out some of the extremism out there

So investigators have known about the trans roommate/romantic partner and kept it confidential.

My guess is that they knew about this quite quickly, but Trump can’t keep his mouth shut, and so his ravings about it came from what he knew.

DP. Definitely keeps your kids off social
media, including YouTube, for as long as possible. Once they’re in middle and high school, though, they’re going to be exposed to all kinds of stuff despite your best efforts. You have to keep talking to them about this until you’re blue the face.

Make sure they understand why you kept them off social media. Make sure they understand the mechanism by which content creators have to keep upping the ante in order to increase engagement, in order to make more money. Make sure that if they feel they are being led, however subtly, down any sort of ideological path, that they stop and question who might profit off of that.

Do this with the adults in your life, too. I’m not sure many of them get it, either.

It depends on the age. They are eventually going to be on social media. You have to talk to them about it, just like you talk about everything. I’ve raised skeptics, for better or for worse, but I’ve tried my best to instill in them that they should always question people that seem to have all of the answers without any qualifications. I’ve made a lot of parenting mistakes, but that’s one thing I’m proud of.

It's safe to say that his militia upbringing had a role but so did the roommate/boy-girlfriend. It's all connected and they are all internet nut jobs.

But if you prioritize the issues here, the trans roommate is the least important unless he is an accomplice. It all began with Tyler’s parents giving him machine guns obviously.

They can't be separated like that. They fed into each other. The main common denominator is the radicalization and violent rhetoric that came at this guy from two different angles.

Nope the #1 common denominator is that a radicalized person was given guns.

It's not because if it wasn't a gun then it would have been a bomb.

Please name the "political nut jobs" who are elected leaders on the left.

I swear that you guys sound more like Homer Simpson every day.

“A gun is not a weapon, Marge. It's a tool. Like a butcher knife, or a harpoon, or... uh, a... an alligator. You just need more education on the subject. Tell you what. You come with me to an N.R.A. meeting, and if you still don't think guns are great, we can argue some more.”

Yes, they've turned on their own. The shooting is an example, but minor compared to what they've been willing to do to their country.

So a guy in a romantic relationship with a trans person shot and killed a conservative pundit, and your argument is MAGA is killing the country!

It does depend on their age. But, no one is immune to extremist propaganda anywhere on the political spectrum. One has to be vigilant at every age!

Otherwise one swallows the excrement of lunatics protecting and enriching themselves at the expense of the country.

They have already been killing children in school and supporting pedophiles, did we expect any more or less?
