Democrats/liberals/progressives etc. do need to produce better influencers and have more grassroots support … or even astroturfed support lol … but when we do, we get attacked by useful idiots like Taylor Lorenz. Can’t win.

Meanwhile the far right gets kids from a very young age when they aren’t even old enough to discern propaganda and biased reporting. My 10 year old loves watching people’s gaming videos on YouTube. He especially loves strategy and war type games, mixed in with clips of older shows and movies like The Simpsons. Guess what else his algorithm was showing him? PragerU. Their videos were just coming up for him mixed with everything else. I blocked their channel and a few others. Now imagine how many parents have no idea what PragerU even is or that their kids are being served RW biased videos all the time, wrapped up in nice production value and disguised as educational children’s content. That’s not the point. The point is this stuff is out there and for every person like me who’s aware of it, there are 10 who aren’t, or who are just happy their kids are watching something educational/newsy and aren’t actually listening to what the videos are saying. [/quote]

This is not going to work. Once they’re on social media you have no idea/control over what they’re seeing. Get them off social media and, yes, You Tube is social media and just as bad as the rest.  [/quote]

DP. Definitely keeps your kids off social
media, including YouTube, for as long as possible. Once they’re in middle and high school, though, they’re going to be exposed to all kinds of stuff despite your best efforts. You have to keep talking to them about this until you’re blue the face.

Make sure they understand why you kept them off social media. Make sure they understand the mechanism by which content creators have to keep upping the ante in order to increase engagement, in order to make more money. Make sure that if they feel they are being led, however subtly, down any sort of ideological path, that they stop and question who might profit off of that.[/quote]
