doubtful. The majority of the population does not have children in the schools. The majority of those that have children in the schools will not be affected.

If they make sweeping boundary changes, unlike any seen for 40 years, without grandfathering, the local Democrats are taking a giant political risk.

Keep in mind that school board and board of supervisors elections are off-year elections, so a big turnout of upset folks looking to unseat the incumbents could have more impact.

Nope. So many voters a single-issue. Most democrats will only ever vote that way because......abortion.

Maybe they are not as concerned about their political future, unlike many in Congress.

Dumbest post of the day right here. Pretends that this is just a market force at work.

I think they passed a law (or tried to pass a law) somewhere in Maryland to that effect. Maybe Howard?

They better. It's so subjective anyway. Similar to saying "quiet street" or "walkable". I think there is a deal with greatschools and the realtor sites. Wonder how much they get with each click.

Schools have been the driving force for years with real estate. My dad was in the real estate business for a while. It was the first thing people asked about. Anyone who tries to tell you differently is uninformed.

It's been a while, but my guess is they will be released a day or two before the related School Board meeting. But, don't expect them to be final. They will discuss and adjust and then the final one will be something you never suspected.

I'm very concerned that the committee members will lobby for their own neighborhoods (one has been posted on this thread already.) I don't know the people on the committee from my pyramid and I don't know where one of them lives. The other definitely will not be looking out for my neighborhood, as hers is one at risk on another edge.

Just found out where the other one lives. They live in neighborhoods that go to the same elementary school--one the opposite end of the boundary from me. .......
Do you think they are concerned about my neighborhood?

No, and this should not be allowed. In most cases these committee members and school board members will do whatever possible to preserve their own property values. Anyone who was paying attention during the 2008 boundary study can tell you how this goes.

So true. They will continue to vote for democratic school board members and then complain when they adopt democratic policies that adversely impact them.

Most people will not be affected and therefore not care about the narrowed grandfathering.

The single issue for those turning out in an off-year SB election is going to be boundaries not abortion.

It won’t impact the online listings. FCPS explored suing Great Schools - it never went anywhere.

The problem is the Republican school board candidates were completely nuts. If they had focused on *educational quality*, they would have gotten my vote. Some old lady running as an R shows up at my door rambling about transexuals and banning books...that's such a turn off. I want more books in school, not fewer.

How to tell us you’ve never met Karl Frisch or Jimmy Bierman…

Those with a memory will remember how Liz Bradsher tanked her political fortunes when she made an unpopular deal to close Clifton ES. That’s the precedent the local politicians need to keep in mind if they impose or acquiesce in unwelcome boundary changes.

I remember seeing that they had a work session discussing the impact of sites like Great Schools on demographic sorting patterns. I didn't know they wanted to sue the company for simply providing information.
