FCPS comprehensive boundary review

I guess it depends on where the Chantilly committee members live. Does anyone know?

Shouldn’t they just wait until the Centreville expansion to 3000 is finished?

Just remember: big changes = no grandfathering. The Great Reset will be the end of Democratic hegemony in Fairfax.

But I suspect they are too prideful and stupid to do the right thing.

While they haven't done a county-wide study in years, there have been multipe boundary changes since 2008. They apparently didn't affect you, so you didn't blather on about a "death spiral" at the time.

Time to put on the big boy pants.

Sorry you can’t see what is coming. Each superintendent is worse than the last. Test scores keep falling. No one wants to sacrifice their kid to make failing schools look better. This will lead to vouchers in VA and the collapse of FCPS.

Oh vouchers are coming but not for those reasons. They’re coming because y’all elected a bunch of far-right oligarchs who want to privatize anything and everything. Get ready for a bunch of hastily-assembled “schools” where a minimum-wage hourly worker supervises students watching Amazon and Meta-built AI content all day long. Suddenly these boundary arguments are going to seem pretty quaint

Surely FCPS isn't so bad that so many parents would spend their vouchers at "hastily assembled 'schools'" rather than continue to send their children to FCPS?

I’m just glad to see funding cuts as deep as possible because of these boundary changes, even if I don’t send my kids private.

I, too, like to hit myself in the head with a frying pan repeatedly.

He thinks this will result in funding cuts? Nothing compared to the chaos created and additional spending resulting. They've probably already spent more than any savings--and they don't even have a published plan yet. Just wait.

Does he really think that the $500K is the only expenditure? Just think of all the FCPS personnel involved. Do they get overtime for evening meetings? Custodians and tech people paid. Believe me, this is going to cost FAR more than any transportation savings. Many kids will end up being sent farther away from current schools.

1) we need a catchier domain URL like FCPSboundarychanges.com. Should be a splash page of the elevator pitch talking points regarding unethical/questionable things during this process.

2) we need volunteers to hold up signs at major intersections advertising that URL and "You're kids school boundary is changing!"

I think it could double, triple the eyes on this now and pressure on the SB this spring once new boundaries are proposed

You do realize a lot families will be thrilled about the bolded. Do not assume all parents are on your side. You might just wake up a sleeping giant with your banners.

Yeah, you don't know many parents with school aged kids if you think that.

I would think parents of older kids would be more enraged. Elementary kids usually have a much easier time making new friends. I see it all the time at the private school where I teach. Now,
Now, if the kid is a jerk, they won’t be making friends, period!

Sorry, but you are absolutely clueless if you think there is some "sleeping giant" of FCPS who want rezoning.

NO parents of school aged kids want this rezoning.

Just think: if all this time spent on boundary meetings; consultants; overtime; etc, was spent on fostering good, solid instruction........

When do these renewed maps get released? Historically speaking, is it days, weeks or months?

It's been a while, but my guess is they will be released a day or two before the related School Board meeting. But, don't expect them to be final. They will discuss and adjust and then the final one will be something you never suspected.

I'm very concerned that the committee members will lobby for their own neighborhoods (one has been posted on this thread already.) I don't know the people on the committee from my pyramid and I don't know where one of them lives. The other definitely will not be looking out for my neighborhood, as hers is one at risk on another edge.

Got it. When are these school boards meetings held? Moving into Ffx Country so learning the ropes....

If they actually provide the maps to the BRAC for comment at some point, haven't they committed to sharing them with the public as well?

Just found out where the other one lives. They live in neighborhoods that go to the same elementary school--one the opposite end of the boundary from me. .......
Do you think they are concerned about my neighborhood?

NO. And that's been my biggest complaint too so far. Aside from the fact that half the committee members clearly are not random, the two that represent my pyramid do NOT go to my zoned elementary school and MY zoned elementary school is the one on the edge at risk of being moved! Their schools will remain untouched and they will have no problem letting ours be changed even though my kids are already settled at their middle and high schools.

I think there should be, at the very least, a representative from each elementary school on the committee and I'm shocked (not really) that there isn't.

I think it’s hilarious that the committee members keep saying that no maps have been released and they haven’t even talked about scenarios yet. They’ve certainly been given the talking points.
