Mine did. ADHD.

Congrats...
Are you going to go ahead with it?
Note: My kid has ASD and have got selected. Not sure whether to accept or not?

Yes, we are moving ahead. I talked with the principal and classroom teacher before we submitted. I may look into a tutor, particularly math, to make sure he has a solid start.

Good luck to you as well. What are you thinking you'll do?

Thanks.
We are going to talk to spec ed and class teacher to take final call next week.
We plan to try for 1 year to see how it goes.

It's exciting and terrifying, all at the same time. Hang in there.

Parent of HS senior student here. Stopped by forum out of curiosity, was in same place several years ago. DC made AAP ended up at TJ. Biggest regret is the lack of opportunities for DC to interact with children with special needs and various challenges re learning. I do think it would have impacted our DC in a very positive in different way instead of always being amidst like-minded, gifted peers.

Wow.... TJ !! Impressive
How was the journey thru AAP??
Was it to much of pressure for ur child?
My kid has ASD so unsure whether to accept AAP or not.
We didn't submit any parent referral.
He got 146 in NNAT.

What elementary? My friend's ASD son is in AAP at Floris and has had a good experience. Assuming he has an IEP?

Releived to hear that.
Yes..he has IEP.
He is in McNair

The comments were nice. Not sure if I bother appealing.

That is not what it means. The NO means no to currently in advanced math or is an advanced reader.

There is NO place in their file for anyone to make a comment like you are saying by any staff member. AART here.

NP. Our DC was recently diagnosed with ADHD and ASD and distance learning didn't work for him. Unsurprisingly, he didn't get in and the GBRS was all Os.

I'm not sure whether to appeal or even if AAP is right for him, even with the high test scores. Your plan to try to for a year seems sensible.

Can you wait a year, ask for Level III, and apply next year? Gives time to drive the GBRS up during in-person school.

I can understand the challenges with distance learning. Hoping for the covid situation to get better by Sep so that kids with Special needs get appropriate help.
My well wishes to ur kid.

NP. Mine has an IEP and is in as well. ADHD, and maybe ASD - school psychologist thinks so and that’s how the re-eval was qualified, but developmental Ped isn’t sure. I don’t know how level IV will go for him, but we are going to give it a try! At our home school, not the center.

We loved the teachers in AAP program...not disappointed at all, great classmates, but we believe that working in a high pressure environment has not always been good for DC. If I had to do it all over again with DC, we would stay at base school for HS. That’s what we will do with sibling. TJ is too competitive. DC has done well but it is sad to see a teenager spend their HS days doing so much work...

I am quite certain that there is a correlation between acceptance and SES.

21:18 here. I feel for you; the distance learning has been really hard to manage. I know my DC’s school has been doing their best with the Spec Ed services, but they just can’t be implemented the same way virtually. Maybe it’s worth talking to your school’s AART to see whether it makes more sense to appeal or to wait for next year after things are (hopefully!) more back to normal?

Thanks for honest and giving another perspective.

I didn’t like the idea of my child’s race listed on the student summary sheet that was submitted. Thought admissions was based on local numbers and race blind. Thought only TJ admissions had SES.

We pulled my daughter out of FCPS this year to homeschool so this was a parent referral.

2nd Grade
NNAT 143
GBRS 2 CO 2 FO (Filled out by me- the teacher!)
Lots of good work samples
1 Standardized test score- California Achievement Test- 99th percentile

This is bullshit - a homeschool parent is going to do everything for their child.

+1 A parent filled out the GBRS? Wtf.
