But sure, let’s throw away female bodily autonomy because those big bad Democrats closed schools to protect their staff and communities. |
They'll never get an anti-abortion bill passed, firstly. Thankfully many women are responsible enough to "guard the gate" and use birth control to prevent unwanted pregnancy from happening in the first place. Autonomy starts there (well, technically it starts one step back with being picky about which men get access in the first place). Kinda like people who voted for Dems because they knew damn good and well that student loan forgiveness wasn't happening, so not worrying about that and focusing on what they were promoting that actually could and should be done. |
The same concept that courts have determined allows abortion also allows birth control. |
you're thinking r's won't seize the opportunity to get an anti-abortion bill passed right here in VA? several states have already basically outlawed abortion - the party here will do it in a hot minute.
and yes, the same premise that allows for abortion allows for birth control. Roe falling would be open season on birth control, as well. and I also refuse to worry about one of my daughters going to jail for a miscarriage at some point in the future. And it will happen if Roe falls. Thanks for this nightmare, Republicans. |
Wow. You have got some major paranoia going there. Who would have thunk that a Republican candidate would be pro-life? Wonders never cease. |
I don't think any of you can call yourselves pro-life at this point. Not after the pandemic. Pro-forced birth, but life? ha This isn't paranoia-It has already happened in some states with fetal death laws. And happens all the time in countries that outlaw abortions. |
NP, it's certainly not paranoia . Recall wunder McDonnell, the Republican-controlled legislature passed the transvaginal ultrasound bill that requires invasive procedures just to get an abortion. What makes you think Republicans won't do everything to either ban or make it extremely difficult to have an abortion? |
So why is he trying to hide it? |
He is unlikely to do anything about abortion access while governor. However, he is smart enough to know that if Republicans start talking about abortion laws, it means more votes for Democrats. ![]() |
You really think he wouldn't rubber stamp a fetal heartbeat bill or other abortion restrictions if they were sent to him by a Republican controlled congress? He isn't going to veto them. VA is not MD or MA where a strongly Democratic congress can be balanced by a Republican governor. A change in a handful of districts and VA is controlled by Republicans across the board. It may not seem like it in NOVA but we haven't had Democratic control of the House and Senate for very long in VA. A handful of seats and the Governorship and we end up with the same laws restricting voting access, eliminating abortion access, targeting free speech, etc. |
It’s hilarious to watch McAuliffe sweat so hard about the prospect of losing to someone who doesn’t have so much negative baggage. And it’s especially funny to watch him criticize Youngkin’s wealth on the way to his own private flight to Nantucket for the weekend. |
I find Youngkin's TV ads to be misrepresenting himself as an everyman when he's really not. The guy went to prep school and talks about flipping eggs (isn't it burgers?) and needing a basketball scholarship to go to college. He called Carlyle a start-up...since when are private equity firms considered start-ups? They might buy or back a start-up, but they're not the ones doing the work. He tries to make it seem like he's built businesses, but Carlyle's business model is basically take a company private, load it up with debt, and flip it to someone else or IPO. Frankly I'd be concerned with someone from private equity as governor...private equity guys are awesome at kicking the can down the road. |
It’s not that we are for Youngkin, we’re just against the other guy. |
The other guy was already Governor for four years. What did he do that was so bad? Please share tales of your suffering with us. |
That “inconclusive” FBI investigation, for one. Virginia needs a nanti-corruption chief |
