Awesome. Tell us more about Tony to the B!

I bet he is a "popular" neighbor, by his own doing. Let me guess, he blames everyone else, and tends to try to deflect for his countless shortcomings? Do tell!

I’d want at least a significant suspended sentence so any misstep if / while on probation (assuming that’s appropriate,) results in significant jail time.

Every bar fight I’ve seen which involved actual cold cocking with black eyes on the other guy ended up with diversion so grabbing some papers out of a kids hand isn’t that big a deal. Don’t get me wrong the video is shocking. And he seems an ass. But the legal consequences should be minor.

My experience is different from yours, we’ll se I guess.

P.s. wait til he puts his character in issue re sentencing and all the neighbors who’ve seen his “act” (asshole) may line up to rebut his character witnesses...

And now he realizes he needs help. I don’t think that’s a bad thing. Is no one in your world entitled to a second chance?

He must not have kids. My father is a mean old fart, but he would never approach, threaten or put his hands on somebody else's kids.

He apparently has 3 kids. I still can’t wrap my head around the instinct to dominate someone so much smaller than you. The tiny teen girl must have ended up with bruises all over her arm from where he wrestled the tape off of it. I don’t think there would have been nearly the same amount of outrage over this crime if we didn’t all feel so protective of that girl/young woman.

I have seen no reports that she suffered injuries of any kind and his actions, while completely out of line, did not look to me like it would have caused bruising like you described. Injury to the guy he apparently knocked over would have been more likely, but if there were any injury I assume it would have been widely reported.

The teen recording the video ended up with a cut on his calf from where the bike struck him. He posted a pic on Reddit. I disagree re the arm bruising. If you look at the video, the large tape roll was around her arm, and he grabbed her arm quite roughly and pulled hard at the tape while she resisted. The teen who posted on Reddit said both his friends valued their privacy and didn’t want to be IDd, so I wouldn’t necessarily expect any updates if the small one had bruises or scrapes.

I am also not sure if bruising would change the second degree assault charge to something more serious; presumably not, since the boy was injured and the assault on him was classified as second degree as well.

Should it matter if they have any injuries? My God, look at the rage on the guy! Plus, he came back onto the trail for the sole purpose of doing what he did - awful excuse for a human being. Awful.

Ask yourself if your “awfulness” meter would register so high if the young people had been plastering posters praising Trump for his tough response ? Hmmm.

Say what? Jackass wouldn't have attacked the teens if the flyers were pro Trump.

DP. That’s not the point. He wouldn’t have, but someone else might have.

Should awfulness or appropriate punishment be based on what side of the political spectrum the victim/perpetrator are on.

I truly hope you don’t mean that. If that were the punishment meted out for what he did, prisons would be filled to the brim with people committing relatively minor, in the scheme of things, offenses.

You can’t give him 30 years because he happened to be pissed off by BLM instead of any number of other things.

Anyone have proof he’s a Trump supporter and this is political? And that he’s not just an angry man?

He will get community service. His life is ruined at least here.

This guy is so full of sh!t. His apology is bullsh!at. And he's clearly behaved like an utter POS many, many times before. Oh, but he was on his way to repent and talk about Jesus. Mmkay. But with all the circulation, it's amazing that yesterday morning, he still had no idea what the police could be interested in (or his kids). What's next, an amnesia claim?

- - - - -

His attorney said when Brennan left his house shortly after 8 a.m., Friday, riding in the passenger seat of his adult son’s car, neither he, nor his client were aware Brennan was considered a suspect, or was under surveillance.

“He couldn’t find his pastor at his own church, so he decided to go look for a priest on his way to my office,” said Jezic, saying his client intended to go to Holy Redeemer Church, on Summit Avenue, in Kensington.

Near the church, Brennan’s son allegedly ran a stop sign, and was pulled over by Maryland-National Capital Park Police, in the church parking lot.

Anthony Brennan was asked to get out of the car, and to be photographed. He agreed.

According to Det. Lopez, the police officer “asked if Anthony Brennan knew what this was about, he at first stated he did not.”

“When they asked ‘are you the bicyclist,’ he said, ‘My lawyer advised me not to speak about the subject,'” Jezic said.

Note that he was on his way to Holy Redeemer - I'm not surprised. That's a very conservative Catholic church and many people who live in the immediate vicinity send their kids to school there. I'm Catholic, live nearby, would never consider it for my family. It's awesome, though, that neighbors and others who knew him turned him in, especially since he was actively trying to evade identification by hiding his bike and his clothing.

I will note as someone who has spent 15 years jogging or walking along the extension of the Capital Crescent trail in Chevy Chase as well as Beach Drive in Kensington that many if not most bikers in this area are rage-a-holics (and white men.) I once saw a biker hit an elderly person's leashed dog and pedal away from the scene, screaming at the dog owner.

His Irish catholic guilt probably had him registered as a democrat, but I bet he still voted for trump.

Everybody is tearing this guy a part. I would bet anything he is not racist. Just like everybody else in the area he is probably liberal and lives a normal life. Probably does not have a racist bone in his body. But he is a cyclist, which means he is crazy. He was probably just mad the kid was blocking the bike/pedestrian path for a second. Have you ever watched the behavior of cyclists at Key Park next to the bridge?

I am pro cyclist safety, but they are crazy and bring a lot of the car nonsense onto themselves. (not the deaths, but the cyclist vs auto road rage)

Take your cyclist hate to one of the many cyclist-hating threads on DCUM, please. It doesn't belong here.
