Not only do you think it’s okay to spread rumors that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted someone in high school but now you want to spread rumors that it’s standard behavior for boys at like Landon and Prep to sexually assault girls. Good grief, you are sick. And no, I’m not associated with either of those schools in any way. And I’m a moderate registered Democrat who feels like she’s lost her party.

It’s not rumors, it is allaegations. Perhaps you should actually read the article.

“Allegations” made by some anonymous person who curiously has come out of the woodwork after 30 years. And it doesn’t even sound like she is alleging something illegal. A boy tried to kiss me in high school!!!

Yep. I remember something similar happening to me at that age. I'm not about to dredge it up now, 30 yrs. later. This is beyond idiotic.

Maybe you should. It sounds like you still have some open psychological wounds that haven't healed.

There needs to be far more nuanced view here. A single incident from 30+ years ago should not destroy anyone's life, whether male or female. Being a Democrat, I am no fan of Judge K or of how the Republican Senate treated Garland. I no doubt would vote against him if I were a Senator. But everybody has gone too far here. There is a huge difference between what we think Judge K did today, what Bill did over decades, and then what Donald did over decades. Huge range of behaviors. I do not where the line is, but it is not at zero. Take the Duke lax scandal. As it turns out, the boys did not do what everybody was screaming about. But what is acknowledged is that a college lax team hired a stripper for a team party. That itself is inappropriate, though not illegal. The screaming around that scandal was overblown, and ignored what we know really happened.

Oh look, another one of those "I'm a Democrat but..." posts.

We all know you're a pro- Kavanaugh shill so just cut the crap. An attempted sexual assault is no comparison to hiring a stripper for a party - don't even try to justify it.

My DH went to one of these schools in the early 80's, and partied with this crowd when Prep was known to be the worst of the worst. We know a woman who was approached to sign the "good character" letter and refused. Kavanaugh was the quiet, smart guy who hung back, but watch out when he was drinking. At Yale he was part of drunk boys frat. I have no doubt that other women have stories about him.

And presumably you would have voted not only to impeach Bill but to convict Bill. Same with Franken? What about Ellison from MN? Same? BTW. I am local as well (Big 3) and knew/know many GP guys. And what about the "mean" girls who mistreat their classmates? How should that behavior affect their careers, 30 years later? What about the high school kid who "borrowed" something from a store in a single incident? Or forgot to pay for my drinks at a bar? Get real! Frankly, someone who has done nothing stupid or wrong over 30 plus years would worry me more.

Sounds like just another Trump troll trying to pretend attempted sexual assault is the same thing as mean girl behavior or shoplifting.

I think the thing I find the most compelling is that the woman reported spending years getting mental health treatment to work through this trauma. She probably has those receipts. People don't spend years in therapy talking about being raped and try to heal privately if there isn't a legitimate trauma there. If she was going to pull a stunt, Judge K was running around and previously confirmed for years. There's probably a reason why she brought this out now.

I also think Judge K disclosed this and she was probably contacted during the FBI background check. My guess is that is how this whole thing blew up. The woman in the letter probably felt like she needed to tell her story before someone else did. +1 to the letter. I know people on this list, and they were asked to sign on as a "character witness," but knew nothing of the potential allegations. It was a bait and switch.

Yikes. I hope they make that public.

Wrong.

Chances are she either didn't tell her parents, or she did but they advised her not to pursue it.

Chances are everyone at Prep and her school heard about it and she was teased about it for years (that's what happened to the local girls I knew).

Chances are this impacted her for decades.

Chances are she never shared all the gory details with her husband, and she definitely never told her kids.

Chances are she and her husband run in circles with people who like Kavanaugh and/or his pals, and their jobs and social life could be affected...as well as their kids' lives/friendships/school, etc.

Plenty of reasons to stay anonymous.

This. I am a member of this community and this is the truth.

It's going to be awful when, and I mean when, this woman's name is released against her will. It will get out as retribution. I hope she's prepared.

She lives on the West Coast so she's somewhat detached from this group. And there are lots of other women from that crowd who are happy to back her up and support her. Notice how probably most of the women on the Grassley letter still live in the DC area - they're the ones who're protecting their standing in the community.

Most of the women who signed the letter are avid and active conservatives. I’m sure that is just a coincidence.

It’s sad how the lower classes think that somehow people will “do the right thing” in the Third Act and support their friend in the moment of truth

Do you really think women are going to step forward and support the accuser? Risking their social standing and their husbands’ careers!!???

Uh, no. Hollywood exists to propagate for the masses the fantasy that in the finale people will stand up for what’s right, “Oh Captain My Captain” and similar Dead Poets Society” nonsense . And that’s a good thing. If you let the 90-something percent think that justice is served eventually, they won’t rise up and support. Modern day bread and circuses, or overpriced popcorn and circuses

People. Brett is going to be confirmed. Yes, he’s going to protect Mike Pence. Yes, he’s going to stop the Karen Silkwoods and Erin Brockoviches from getting any relief. Yes, he’s going to destroy campaign finance restrictions. Yes, he’s going to drop the hammer on criminal defendants whose “rights” have been violated (and thank you “public defender” who saw fit to testify for Brett right before Brett’s circuit court decided whether to reappoint you for another four years ).

And yes women, you’re not getting your abortions nor your birth control unless you are qualified to do so. And it’s Brett and his non-RBG, non-Sonia from the ‘Hood colleagues who will decide, not you. And there’s really nothing Democrat Party people and their AnitaHill2.0 pawns can do.

First of all, this behavior is rampant in both parties, and you know this.

Second, if the standard is always going to be, politicians from the past behaved terribly so we can never begin to hold anyone responsible for bad behavior forever, God help us all. Let's demand better. We live in a different era where women are at least starting to be believed, where power is shifting a bit, where social media etc. is bringing things out more. We can demand better.

Likely, she sat on it because she knows it's not a really credible accusation but was pressured to do it as a last ditch effort. As a woman, I'm embarrassed for her because it's beneath her usual way of operating and weakens her own credibility.

Nope, she sat on it because she did not want the woman to be made the next Anita Hill against her will. The venom coming from your side makes clear why the woman would want to protect her life and privacy,

Original PP. The woman I know was in the same exact position. That's why she's not happy about her name being involved. But she's very, very reluctant because people she knows have talked about how the woman in the letter is going to be destroyed when this is over if anyone leaks her name. The woman I know doesn't want to be pulled into that circus, particularly since they have kids in one of these elite privates, her DH works in DC and her club and community are involved.

My guess is she doesn't say anything. The only reason I knew was that she mentioned the letter to me well before the hearings. She was actually excited to support him, fwiw until she realized her name was being used in this context.

This.

I'm a bit younger than Kavanaugh, but this crap was still happening when I came up through the local catholic private school scene. This was rampant.

And it started in 7-8th grade...at least it did at my catholic school. By high school things got aggressive. And it was the quiet jocks who hung back until they either had the nerve or were coaxed into doing it. Alcohol was always involved.

I won't name names or provide years, but everyone from my age group can tell stories of girls being dragged into bedrooms or being pinned against walls by multiple guys. Field parties seemed safer than house parties precisely because there weren't any bedrooms to be dragged into.

Unless you went to any of these schools back in the day, you have no way of knowing that the corporate moguls, lawyers, and local car dealer in dcumlandia were raping girls at parties in high school.

Oh, please, please, provide us with the names and years! The fact that you would even say that as if you might, but you'll have to restrain yourself from outing their names on DCUM.
