Please go yank your child out of bed late tonight to go for an unnecessary drive to an unknown place in the dark. Sleeping children are lame.

Oh no not in the dark!! Do you not drive after sunset? Unless your vision is impaired what does it matter that it would be dark out?

41 pages later. Do y'all understand that NJ and those area beaches do not have Target? It ain't OBX!

The moral of this insane story/scenario is to avoid private school, the DC area in general and of course Target! Can we all move on to less mundane bullshit? The USA is sinking!

I'm willing to believe there's no Target anywhere between here and NJ. I'm not willing to believe that you cannot buy a child's swim suit at the beach.

My take is that swimsuit mom was already mad at OP (for not coming to the party, it seems like? Something else?) and the accidental swimsuit swap was adding insult to injury. Swimsuit Mom could have made the drive herself if it was really important, or borrowed a swimsuit from a local friend/relative, or bought a new swimsuit locally that evening or on the way to the beach (yes there are old navys and targets and various other strip mall stores between here and NJ), or had the kid wear athletic shorts, or a million other things. I think her pre-existing annoyance at OP led her to demand that OP drive the swimsuit back that night with a baby in tow - otherwise she would have said "Oh next week is fine" and utilized one of the many other options.

OP, why do you think swimsuit mom was so angry at you BEFORE the mix-up?

Really? Who cares why someone is completely irrational.

There is a Target in Newark Delaware that is pretty much visible from I-95. We have stopped there many a time on our way to the Jersey Shore.

You're welcome.

A few pages back, a kind poster with a place on the Jersey shore posted myriad options for (reasonably priced) swimsuit options. With addresses.

1. There is no Target at the OBX. The closest is in Chesapeake, VA.

2. There is no shortage of Targets between DC and the Jersey Shore. As pointed out earlier in the thread, there is a Target in Mays Landing, right off of the AC Expressway and without a stones throw of Old Navy and a shopping mall. You can even go on the Target app and check inventory.

Depending on which route you take, there is also one in Millville, NJ, just off hwy 55.

This whole thread truly points out how detached with real issues we have become in this area. Too rich and too bored to have real issues to talk about, too entitled and too selfish to even be in an open state of mind. Too much, it's all about me attitude. I am not saying I am different, just that we should all take a hard look at ourselves when we can afford whole summer vacations to Jersey shore but can't find a solution to a kid's swimming trunks. One mom can't be inconvenienced to drive to return, the other can't be inconvenienced to stop by somewhere and buy another pair, how lazy is our society?

But OP wouldn't have had to yank the child out of bed. She had friend and/or friend's husband around to drink wine with - she could have easily asked them to stay with the baby. OP is making hay of the most inconvenient to her reading of facts - DH aawy, sleeping child, 10 pm, etc. But she had other resources to rely on and didn't want to after she offered to make it right. Then she comes and mocks the other mom after getting the majority of support on this thread.

Are you now suggestion for someone who has been drinking wine to get behind the wheel with two children and drive for an hour at 10 PM?

Who would even give the other family the bill? That is the strangest part of this. The other family is giving the suit back and it's an honest mistake. Who collects money from other people in this situation? That is being a crazy bean counter. Buy another suit. Now you have a spare when you get the other back

This is exactly the part I don't understand. The OP was going to return the suit. There was nothing wrong with the suit, it just went home accidentally with the wrong kid. Wouldn't the other family have preferred the suit to $30?

If the OP's friend had showed up at my door with $30, I would have turned it down. The money does me no good when I need a suit for my kid, especially if the other suit is a big favorite of my son's for some reason.
