| I now realize that “Stop Asian Hate” means stop Asians from hating others. 😢 The immigrants who lost the plot. |
How do these “Wootton Pahhhhhkway” parents expect their children to survive once they get to college? When you get to college, you have to do all kinds of new and uncomfy things like walking, riding the bus, being tired, etc. How will America’s smartest kids in the whole wide world ever survive??! |
If you think that, there’s not much hope for you. |
How DARE you! There are hotels there! |
They will survive better than the rest of MCPS grads who drop out after two years. |
Real question. What law? Link or citation please. |
Huh? This feels rather high and mighty. Aren’t we trying to be clever and snarky here? You assume the Asians doing the hate are immigrants. Some are, some aren’t. Some are 2nd gen by now. The other thing is, you sound ignorant as hell not understanding there’s some scarcity mindset in the mix. If this was supposed to be funny, it’s just sad and gross. |
Easy to snarky on DCUM. That seems to be half the posts these days. Not clever. Just boring and predictable. |
Exactly, there is no law that says you have to have every public school communication in every language possible or translated into the language of the group that is the largest demographic of that school. Get your facts straight PP and stop spreading misinformation. Spreading it to a captive audience in the WeChat is one thing but doing it here with a broader audience will get you spanked with the truth. 😒 |
I will be honest with you. No one knows or differentiates between recent Asian immigrants and 4th or 5th generation Asian immigrants. I know within your own communities, you do differentiate but for non-Asians we are not able to make this type of differentiation so everyone gets painted with the same broad brush. And no, no one feels like making the effort to figure this out - it’s really not relevant to us. |
I'm from Gaithersburg and met a lot of people who went to W schools when I went to college. This anecdote sounds dumb at face value, because it is. Kids from W schools were way more effective out of the gate and, on average, had better outcomes (great jobs out of school, med school, etc) than average. This is obvious to anyone who is honest with themselves. We're not talking about guarantees, we're talking about probability and uncertainty. Having a rigorous environment where expectations are high sets you up for success. It's not the whole story, but it's part of it. The smart thing to do would be to expand this mindset to other clusters over time and curate excellence, but we're going in the other direction, because MCPS does not have the courage to hold itself accountable to teach children effectively. It's too hard. |
I just want to add a note that some people do actually differentiate between these groups, but thank you for sharing that you, personally, are ignorant and racist. |
Agree and also, if we are being honest, many of those “early leads” came from family connections not what they were taught at a school that began with the letter W. |
Wait, people from the wealthiest neighborhoods have better outcomes? Omg, really? Do you have any other insights you can share with us? We all need to learn from you. s/ |
This is a factor, but without the drive to succeed nurtured at “W” schools, those connections are worthless. You need grades AND connections in today’s global economy. Without grades, you don’t have a chance. |
