I would love to agree with you but no way. Not with 8+ inches of snow.

Best case scenario is a two hour delay on Wednesday.

But parts of Reston are only getting 6" of snow! So they should definitely go to school tomorrow!

Fairfax one! We already have 7 inches on Chantilly/centreville/south riding border-sorry.

LOL so desperate sounding.

It's no surprise that kids are struggling with mental health, after having such negative and nasty people for parents.

That comment amounts to a declaration of war.

Are you just pulling s h I t from your butt or do you have some link you’d like to quote? Are you one of those “It just feels like xyz is happening…?”

Here is Capital Weather Gang’s post from 6:30am

If you're just waking up, 3-6" of snow has already fallen across much of the DC area. We're well on our way to 6-12"

Some totals are shown here.

Instant gratification has fried our brains. People see a forecast of 6-12 inches over a 24 hour period and think if they don’t see all 12+ when they wake up at 6 am then we didn’t get anything.

The original forecast had the biggest batch of snow coming overnight. The snow hole seemed to delay the start of the storm and then most of us woke up to no precipitation at all when the heaviest snow was supposed to fall before 10am. It's picked back up again but I would be surprised if we hit double digits unless the heavy snow window extends later than originally. We'll likely hit the 6 inch mark and be within our prohection but the storm also clearly went further south than originally projected based on snow totals in Stafford. It's disappointing when all the models showed the DMV getting the biggest accumulations.

All that said, this is the most snow my kids have ever seen in person so they're already up and out having a great time in what we do have.

Current forecast is for heavy snow to continue until noon, then let up, and then an additional heavy band in the evening giving an additional 1-2" of snow.

The snow storm isn't done yet.

No, but locally we are not getting more than another 2” or so than we have now. Meaning where I am we are looking at 7” max.

I have 8 on my back patio now. And all these side roads will be sheets of ice in the morning.

Sorry to all y’all who see school as childcare. Maybe you shouldn’t have had kids?

This is honestly such an obnoxious comment. Society is set up in the way that kids go to school during the day and parents work during the day. Many families need both parents to work. We do not see school as merely "childcare", but it's de facto where kids spend the majority of their day!

It's reasonable for working parents to be irritated that they have to deal with a snow day. That's valid. But some of you have such a negative attitude towards the education system, it's disturbing.

Nobody has 8 inches yet. We’ll see if it materializes. They were wrong on the overnight amounts.

We have 8 inches in Centreville. I hate snow so ugh.

And do what? Can’t really teach without kids there.

I had my whole week prepped, calendar changed over, classroom clean and ready to go. A waste for 2 days since a lot of it was review materials and now we jump back into benchmark when we return. And re shuffle the rest of the subjects.

Most professionals cannot completely check out like that for weeks on end.

My spouse is one of you professionals- as long as their Teams isn’t red for more than a couple hours at a time they can stay checked out in perpetuity.

Anyway, since teaching is so easy I’ll be sure to welcome you personally when you sign up for next year. I’m sure with your depth of expertise principals will clamor over you.

My husband didn’t take any vacation days between Christmas Eve and New Year’s. He checked his email in the morning, at lunch, and in the evening. I think he participated on two teams meetings and two phone calls. We binge watched three shows over the break.

There are plenty of employees in the real world checking out.

ARE YOU OKAY WITH GOING BACK NEXT WEEK? OR DO YOU WANT A 4TH WEEK OFF

I highly doubt it, mainly because if even a couple of inches are predicted for later today they won’t have the plow trucks off the main roads until after that falls and is cleared.

For some reason my culdesac that usually never get plowed was plowed at 7:30am today.

Interesting. Jay’s Wintry Mix says no one in Loudoun (which borders you) got more than 5” so far.
