| OMG - thank you for this post! I'd say cattle dog and beagle as well. 100% cuteness. |
what a bunch of sweet chonks! they look like dog-type dogs to me maybe some cattle dog, some pittie, some lab, some chow, some who the heck knows what. our dog's dna test came back with a bunch of surprises. all those generations of mixed genes result in the most delightful looking dogs.

that naughty look! i think you have a sweet troublemaker on your hands there. looks like your other dog is taking the puppy in stride. |
He's been so good with Olaf! Olaf loves to snuggle with him and give him kisses and he just goes with it, but he also does a great job at correcting him and teaching him good dog manners. When the puppies turned 4 weeks we slowly started to let him be around them more and he was so sweet and gentle.

<3 <3 <3 <3 I love when "helper" dogs help the newbies learn how to dog |
Here are the results! Looks like the father must have been an Australian Cattle dog. Many of you guessed pretty accurately! Spanish Water Dog is kind of interesting..... I told my husband that I thought he had Great Pyrenees in him, it might only be 1% but I was still right!

| Thanks for posting. The Spanish Waterdog is a surprise, with its wavy coat. Cattle dogs are very smart. You lucked out. |
100% cute! |
| Olaf is the best!! He’s going to be an amazing dog, and I love how your other dog is taking him under his paw. <3 |
I would really like to know if this puppy stayed as derpy and adorable as he looks in this picture!!! |
That one we named Mushu. He was a favorite from the beginning, my mother adored him. When we decided we were going to keep one he was definitely on the short list, but in the end we decided his personality wasn't the right fit for us. It was such a hard and emotional decision trying to decide which one to keep!

| The puppies are adorable. But if you were wondering if most foster dogs from shelter are part pit bull the answer is there. Also cattle dog + pit bull = willful strong minded dog. |
I don't fully trust the Wisdom numbers under 10 percent but I was also guessing he had a pinch of Pyr based on the photo so I am inclined to believe that one! |
OP here and I just wanted to touch on your pit bull comment. Going into fostering we originally said we did not want to foster a pit bull mix, in hindsight that probably wasn't realistic, but we have a 25 pound beagle mix and we didn't want to take any chances. When we got the call about Penny, the rescue said they wouldn't have called us, but none of their other fosters were prepared to deal with puppies. They said if we couldn't take her they would have to tell the shelter that had picked her up that they couldn't help. Ultimately we said yes, with the understanding that if she showed any signs of aggression towards us or our dog she would have to go. She turned out to be the sweetest dog I have ever met. From Olaf's DNA test it looks like she was half pitbull, and I have to say, if most pitbulls have her disposition I can understand why people fight for them. I've been around dogs my whole life and I had never met a dog as affectionate and sweet as her. I also believe that proper socialization for young puppies is extremely important and will reduce the risk of aggression and behavioral problems later in life. Those puppies were born and raised in our home for the first 8 weeks of their lives. We handled and gave them love daily. We also socialized and exposed them to as much as we could. Needless to say, they were well adjusted puppies. |
<3 as a pit bull advocate, thank you the thing to know is that with mixed breed dogs - which is what most dogs identified as pitties are - you won't necessarily find any dog showing breed characteristics. the genes get all mixed up in there and turn out how they turn out - and with most dogs, that means they are going to turn out delightful, especially if they are exposed to a positive environment. i'm glad that's what you are experiencing here, and that it's turning you into an advocate, too. thank you. |
