That and bean sprouts are the only things I avoid here in the U.S. I also went to India, Sri Lanka, and the Middle East while in the first trimester and did not restrict my eating - with the caveat that I did not eat street food and I only ate from reputable places.(Which I guess does count as restricting my eating but don’t think I would’ve eaten street food in those places while not pregnant.) In Mexico City I did eat street food.

I got severe food poisoning in India. I also came back with a few friends, i.e. parasites. I tried to be very careful.

I am the PP you’re responding to. I got extremely sick in India too. I was so sick I thought I was dying - and I didn’t even care. I was pregnant and still nursing my 15mo and consuming negative calories for days. For me it was a bug, not food poisoning. I never want to go to India again.

And I am glad others mentioned not drinking tap water. I guess that’s so obvious to me I didn’t think to mention it!

People go to Mexico constantly. Cabo is filled with Americans! It is not like going to India. Geez. It’s like So Cal.

Duh, that was my point. I was telling OP that I *even* went to India in my first trimester and just took simple precautions. Then I was responding to the other PP that yes, I did get really sick but it wasn’t the food.

Go to Hawaii.

I genuinely don't understand why you wouldn't go. Very few food poisoning culprits cause miscarriage. Sure, you're more likely to get stick. But the fetus would be fine.

Did you read the part where she's leaving next week?

Why in earth would you go to Mexico over the Caribbean or even Florida? Can’t eat the food/ violence/ poor medical care/etc?

Is it that cheap?

When people think DCUM is educated and worldly...you have this.

You are pregnant and their vax rates are low and covid rates are high.

But if OP is vaxxed, that shouldn’t matter.

People who are vaxxed can still get covid, especially from unvaccinated people.

+1
I thought I was very careful in India & still came back with (hard to get rid of) parasites. It was fairly awful

Ugh. You again?

You are insane. Morning sickness, zika, intense heat...wth? To go to MEXICO? I would cancel. I wouldn't ever put my pregnancy at risk this way.

Sweet Jesus. It's going to be a high of 79 in Cabo. Zika isn't a worry anymore. Please read something other than DCUM occasionally.

At risk from what exactly? And what does morning sickness have to do with Mexico? Do you believe it gets worse in Mexico? You don't seem very bright.

You would think she was going to New Guinea by the responses here. She's going to the Waldorf Astoria in Cabo. Some of you posters really need to get out more.

Not to mention that they never had Zika in Cabo. It’s not tropical and the mosquitos can’t fly over the Sea of Cortez. Some people hear Mexico and all they can think of Cancun/Cozumel.

I would be more concerned about issues with the pregnancy and needing medical care or border issues (with any county) than food or crime. I think it is more important to OP to post baby moon photos than to actually do what might be in the best interest of the pregnancy. I would either postpone until a later date or look to travel somewhere in US where you don’t have to worry about impact to the trip. Canadian borders are not even open right now, I would be sticking I placed where travel wouldn’t be restricted.

I think this is a good point. If it’s first trimester that’s when your risk of miscarriage is high. Have you considered what you would do if you miscarried on the trip? Would you feel comfortable seeking medical care in Mexico? Would you feel comfortable navigating the Mexican health care system during COVID if you had to? How is your Spanish? Would you feel okay if you had to go to a hospital? How would you feel about the trip in hindsight if you, god forbid, miscarried, caught COVID, or got food poisoning? No one is arguing with you that you don’t deserve a vacation, OP. But traveling while pregnant and traveling not pregnant are not the same thing. Add in a different country’s health care system which may or may not be adequate and covered by your insurance and you’ve added in a layer of complexity. Add in the pandemic and there’s another one. Add in restrictions around eating and drinking and that’s another level. Only you can decide if the benefits outweigh the risks. It’s possible the trip would be great and none of the thing you’re worried about would happen. But if they did, are you prepared and ok with the consequences?

OP didn't ask if she should go. She asked about what food to avoid.
