I actually can't do that here because I live in Seattle.

Why in earth would you go to Mexico over the Caribbean or even Florida? Can’t eat the food/ violence/ poor medical care/etc?

Is it that cheap?

No sweetie, the Waldorf isn't that cheap. I'm on the west coast. A trip to the Caribbean is a 24 hour worth of travel affair. Florida is disgusting. Are you seriously so sheltered you don't understand why people...go to Mexico? You realize there is more to Mexico than the senior frogs you went to on a cruise once right?

Gotcha I think I mean find a spot that full fills those needs without all those restrictions fresh fruit is delicious when in first trimester haha I’m a city girl through and through and want my amenities and I’m already so anxious about what I eat I wouldn’t want to try to balance more restrictions and…brush teeth and face with bottled water haha that one still would be so daunting to me!

NP- I mean this gently, but you should broaden your horizons.

What is so daunting about it?

I got very ill in Mexico and almost died. I almost didn't make it home. I wouldn't go. I had a water purifier, everything. Ate only at nicer restaurants or the resort and followed all of the recommendations. Too risky.

Honestly just dumbfounded that people spend money to “vacation” in Mexico. Pregnant or not.

My horizons are plenty broadened when I’m not first trimester pregnant puking.

You sound very narrowminded. Mexico is just beautiful in so many places. Best beaches, cenotes, great snorkeling and lovely food!

Cabo is gorgeous. You’ll have a good time. I think the ice at the resorts is all specially purified. Salsa can be a problem because it’s not well cooked, as can some very watery fruits like watermelon. I think you’ll be fine at someplace like the ritz.
And I’ve never gotten sick in Mexico, fwiw. When I travelled through little towns, I was paranoid and brushed my teeth with bottled water, peeled fruits, etc. but at the resorts I just ate whatever.

The Sea of Cortez has more biodiversity than any place in the Western Hemisphere other than the Galapagos. It was a favorite of Darwin’s.

Anonymous wrote:I went to Mexico City while 16 weeks pregnant and ate whatever I wanted - except queso fresco. That and bean sprouts are the only things I avoid here in the U.S. I also went to India, Sri Lanka, and the Middle East while in the first trimester and did not restrict my eating - with the caveat that I did not eat street food and I only ate from reputable places.(Which I guess does count as restricting my eating but don’t think I would’ve eaten street food in those places while not pregnant.) In Mexico City I did eat street food.

I got severe food poisoning in India. I also came back with a few friends, i.e. parasites. I tried to be very careful.

I am the PP you’re responding to. I got extremely sick in India too. I was so sick I thought I was dying - and I didn’t even care. I was pregnant and still nursing my 15mo and consuming negative calories for days. For me it was a bug, not food poisoning. I never want to go to India again.

And I am glad others mentioned not drinking tap water. I guess that’s so obvious to me I didn’t think to mention it!

People go to Mexico constantly. Cabo is filled with Americans! It is not like going to India. Geez. It’s like So Cal.

Op, do you tend to get ill traveling in general or eating out? If not I would go without hesitation especially with the current overboard sanitization practices.

Sure am, very narrowminded about vacationing in places our own state department says don’t go to or you risk having your head blown off my a rogue cartel. No thanks, have fun though.

I’m a not sure why OP is getting so defensive- also if both OP and spouse are first responders, and have “two toddlers” already, curious why you need to be on DCUM asking for travel advice. I would be more concerned about issues with the pregnancy and needing medical care or border issues (with any county) than food or crime. I think it is more important to OP to post baby moon photos than to actually do what might be in the best interest of the pregnancy. I would either postpone until a later date or look to travel somewhere in US where you don’t have to worry about impact to the trip. Canadian borders are not even open right now, I would be sticking I placed where travel wouldn’t be restricted.
