Are you vaccinated against Hep A, OP?

I’d cancel it doesn’t sound like fun based on all the rules, no good food or drinks avoid people etc. what are you gona do pool and beach? You can do that here. I wouldn’t go just because it would be so restrictive…brush teeth with bottled water wth? Haha extra work

That and bean sprouts are the only things I avoid here in the U.S. I also went to India, Sri Lanka, and the Middle East while in the first trimester and did not restrict my eating - with the caveat that I did not eat street food and I only ate from reputable places.(Which I guess does count as restricting my eating but don’t think I would’ve eaten street food in those places while not pregnant.) In Mexico City I did eat street food.

I got severe food poisoning in India. I also came back with a few friends, i.e. parasites. I tried to be very careful.

I am the PP you’re responding to. I got extremely sick in India too. I was so sick I thought I was dying - and I didn’t even care. I was pregnant and still nursing my 15mo and consuming negative calories for days. For me it was a bug, not food poisoning. I never want to go to India again.

And I am glad others mentioned not drinking tap water. I guess that’s so obvious to me I didn’t think to mention it!

I am the PP who’s been all over while pregnant. Brushing teeth with bottled water isn’t hard.

Ok, not trying to judge...just curious...

Why in earth would you go to Mexico over the Caribbean or even Florida? Can’t eat the food/ violence/ poor medical care/etc?

Is it that cheap?

Water in Cabo is much cleaner than elsewhere because they have a desalination plant. We go regularly and I drink tap water and have never had an issue.

I shouldn't respond to this but I will. I have two toddlers. The last vacation I took was in 2018. My husband and I were both essential workers who went though hell during covid. We saved up and are staying at the Waldorf, the first vacation we've been on solo since our honeymoon. We flew up my in laws and parents to take care of our kids, the first childcare we've had since 2019. Selfish? You bet! Women aren't just vessels for pro creation. I get to have a life too. I would rather drink bottled water and eat saltines the whole time than cancel.

And Zika? There was one confirmed case in Mexico in 2020. Zero in 2021. 50 in 2019 There haven't been Zika cases in Cabo ever.

Troll harder you absolute moron.

Clapping for you OP.

If you have to ask why someone would go to Mexico over Florida, whatever answer they give probably won't make sense to you anyway. People have different preferences.

Gosh you’re right Mexico is the ONLY place in the WORLD right now to vacation! You’re the moron.

My guess is you are 57 years old and not a mother.

31 and pregnant with my second. From south Texas where people go to Mexico like they go to Annapolis here. You can practically walk, and it’s well understood you don’t go when you’re pregnant. Moronic.

For the love of pete. You do know that women get *pregnant in Mexico* all the time? Like Mexican women? And they go on to have healthy children (like, thousands a day)?

And, OP is in a somewhat unusual situation b/c most women aren't even *aware* they're pregnant at 4 weeks. If she didn't know, she'd go and party it up, I'm sure, and no harm would likely be done.

OP, since you *do* know just avoid alcohol, fresh fruit, and tap water. That's probably it. Resorts provide so much bottled water for you anyway, it shouldn't be hard to drink plenty. Stay hydrated, and relaxxxx. I'm jealous!

Not sure why everyone thinks it will be that hard to avoid the tap water, fresh fruit and vegetables, and cheese. I always avoid the tap water in Mexico without much effort. I've been to Cancun and Cabo a very large number of times and I think I've only gotten sick once -- it is certainly not inevitable. Have a great time and enjoy!

Sorry, OP. I agree with the PP. I would cancel the trip. I would go in my second or third trimester. But there is too much risk in the first trimester. I love Mexico and don’t worry much about the food when I’m there. But I absolutely would not go in the first few months of pregnancy. Especially during a pandemic.

I would cancel.

+1 Yup, this. Don't drink the water (or anything that might have had water on it, like salads). Eat cooked food. You will have a great time.
