Anyone give their child a typical 1950’s, 1960’s name?

I love the name Jean!

Also, Sally in Mad Men was actually named Sarah, with Sally being a nickname.

I wanted to name dd Elizabeth and call her Betty by DH nixed that.

Linda is a terrible name.

I like Linda and think it will come back - it means cute/pretty.

Or just Joni, like Joni Mitchell. It has a cool throwback feel, like someone who would be described as a "tough broad" in the 50s/60s for spouting feminist ideas during book club. I'd love to know a Joan/Joanie!

Joanie and Margo are two names I really want to come back.

I feel like Margo kind of has? Not sure where it is on the popularity lists, but I've definitely heard it recently for babies.

I think Joanie sounded too dated even for me a couple years ago but is suddenly sounding SO fresh and perfect.

Yup, Margo/Margot has been climbing the charts. Margot is in the 200s after being outside the top 1000 as recently as 2012. Margo is the less popular spelling, which surprises me a little because it's the more phonetic spelling. Maybe people like that silent French "t"?

Joan is totally primed for a comeback though! Been falling in popularity since the 80s. Hasn't even ranked in the top 1000 since the early 90s! I think it's time to brink it back.

I prefer Melinda, personally. Same meaning, less association with your high school BFF's uptight mom.

I know a woman who used Margaux for one of her girls.

Most have been commenting on girls names but I named my son Dean. Love it.

I named my son Robert (family name) which was definitely more popular in the 50s and 60s. I do hear the name for little kids more and more--I guess others are also naming their sons after their dads and grandads!

I love the name Lisa (would have used that for a girl) and also Julie. But I had a lot of friends with those names so I think of them as 70s and 80s names. I think of Mary as a more classic name rather than 50s and 60s. I know a lot of Mary's ranging in age from 5 to 95.

I'm 60, my first name is Helen which was popular in the 20s but not in the 60s when I was born. I hated my name then but love it now, it's a classic and I was the only Helen I knew of (besides my grandmothers). I thought Sophie and Rose were terrible grandma names and look how popular they are now. Name your baby Susan (my best friend's name was Laurie Susan so maybe I'm biased). She'll have an unusual name compared to her friends and she will grow into it. Your baby won't be a baby forever, consider how the name fits an adult. I think picking a name that was popular in the past but isn't so popular now is a great way to go.
