What swimsuit are you buying this year and why?

I just ordered a pair of Body Glove swim shorts:

I mostly wear swimsuits to paddle board and kayak, and also I am kind of a prudish never-nude (not for body image issues - I not so modestly think I look great at 47! - but I just don't like the feeling of being out in public in my underwear).

I'll see how these are. Might look for some new bikini tops, too. And a new rashguard.

I wish more swim companies would make bike short length swim bottoms! That's my complaint. I like the boyshort bottoms but often they are "cheeky" and as someone with an ample behind, I always feel like I am just hanging out of them. Sizing down, they rise up - sizing up, they're too loose and flappy.

Anyway.

Weirdly, I am really digging Lands End's prints and cuts this season - usually I find them too frumpy, even for me. I think this suit is so cute:

Thank you for articulating this. I feel exactly the same way. I like my body and have no shame about it, but I find running around in a bikini or very high cut/cheeky one pieces to just feel really exposed in a way I don't love. I like a full coverage bottom that is pretty covered in front. I don't need a full on boy short (though if I could find one cut the way you are talking about, I might like it), I just want a bathing suit that does not require me to wax everything off or won't lead to me spending the entire day tugging it back into place. And it's frustrating to me that bathing suits that are cut this way are often very conservative in other ways (really high cut backs, for instance, or that classic older-lady suit with the high wrap front and all the ruching).

I recently became obsessed with Malia Mills one piece suits because they are exactly what I'm always looking for -- full coverage on the bottom but sexy and revealing on top. I just can't pull the trigger on a $400 bathing suit. But I've been looking for something similar all season:

I think for $400 you could do much better.

For example?

I am the PP - and I think that's a really pretty suit! I don't know enough about one pieces to recommend a cheaper version.

And omg yes, I hate worrying thatI have hair in the wrong place or whatever, when I've got a swimsuit on.

Lands End. Tons of great suits.

I spend a lot of time at the beach and need a new suit. Over the last couple years I've noticed that the bottoms are cut way too high in the back. Not fully a thong but definitely not full coverage! It's so hard to find a suit that's in between racy and frumpy and fits and doesn't cost a fortune.

I was a faithful fan of lands end for a decade or more but a few years ago they reworked their tops and they became very uncomfortable and hard to get on and off. Hopefully they’ve fixed that now?
I do still love their swim shorts which are really comfortable and come in a variety of styles of lengths. Really perfect for running after kids, kayaking, etc. and you are so much less likely to get sand in your crotch or have that “”oh, damn, forgot to redo my bikini wax” moment.

This is one of the top 10 things that sucks about being a woman. Why do we let the stupid fashion deciders do this to us? This year, we all have to walk around with wedgies because someone decided that’s what’s in?

That is horrendous!

NP. I actually love it.

Yes, it’s very cute!

I like it, too.

I like that suit, too. And I can't imagine being rude enough to call something "horrendous" when someone wants asking for an opinion, they were sharing an answer to a specific question that they were invited to share.

Yes! I look at my husband with his baggy trunks WITH POCKETS and I swear I’m going to make some sartorial changes.

So much easier for men!! Long shorts and no need to shave or wax and no one bats an eye about their belly hanging over the waistband.

And I am not a fan of the "cheeky" look, even if the cheeks are beautiful.

That looks literally identical to the Andie brand suits that spam my instagram ads. I agree that $400 is insane for such a simple and honestly not even that wildly flattering suit

+100

I love my butt and love how it looks in jeans and shorts. And it’s not even that I think it looks bad in a swimsuit. I have a little cellulite (who doesn’t?) but otherwise I think it looks great. But who wants to walk around with your butt hanging out? Especially if you have kids— I just really don’t want to worry about it that way.

And don’t get me started on trying to find a swimsuit I can wear in the presence of my in-laws without feeling like I have to hide under a cover up the whole time. And my MIL is obsessed with how I look and always comments on it and will also make comments on my body, especially since I had a baby. All complimentary, but like, I don’t want my MIL looking at my butt, even admiringly. Ugh. It makes me feel like a prude but it’s how I feel.
