Also, we need to stop being surprised that teachers are just like everyone else. If we create ways for them to slack (”professional development” Mondays, easy ADA accommodations, no failing kids) then many MANY will slack.

Blame the freaking managers (Brabrand and School Board) - not the minions that are just doing what's best for them within the current set of rules.

I just finished my lunch. I did Morning Meeting 9:00 to a little after 9:30. I then went over each assignment for the day. I met with a reading group at 10:00 and another at 10:20. I’ve spent some time here at school trouble shooting some tech issues with our SBTS. I will now work on getting things ready for tomorrow.

My students have:
A math assignment with lesson slides about area.
ST Math
A recorded lesson about book talks and an assignment to complete a book talk using Flipgrid.
A social studies assignment about resources.

I know it’s not ideal and I hope we can be back to our “normal” schedule on the fall.

I don't understand. I thought all FCPS schools were now totally "asynchronous" (AKA no learning) on Mondays?

My 5th grader is online with the teacher from 9 - 11 every Monday and sometimes later, but 9-11 is standard. Some Mondays the teacher will go until 12:30/1, but it's not very often.

Our school sent an email saying new FCPS policy was that Mondays were "totally asynchronous" at every school. So that was a lie?

She’s also supposed to be working, not frolicking at the playground...

How is it acceptable for a teacher to be at the playground chilling with a preschooler on a day she is supposed to be at work? (1) She's not at work and (2) Her child should be in daycare. She obviously decided to save the daycare costs this year and just slack off.

Teachers were explicitly told that they did not need to arrange for childcare this year. This teacher playing with her child on a Monday morning is only doing what the school board laid out. She is not going above and beyond, but she is not required to be tethered to her computer on Monday's.

If you are upset, feel free to reach out to the school board. They are the ones that said this was what school would be for 2020-21. Not this random teacher.

It's not just the school board. VDOE let many districts in VA (but not all) get away with this when they set up the hours waiver process for 2020-21.

I have attended a ton of IEP meetings for my child. I would be pissed if a teacher was at the playground listening in to our "boring" meeting while also supervising a young child. WTH?

One of the PPs whose kids still have teacher interaction on Monday. Our school said it was still "asynchronous" if it was only morning meeting. They didn't exactly flout the policy, just skirted it.

The PT at our IEP meeting in June was clearly at the swimming pool with her kids. The staff really could not GAF, there are no incentives to actually care this year.

Getting mad at her serves no purpose. She was not technically doing anything wrong.

Get mad at Brabrand. Get mad at the school board. Get mad at DOE. Then actually write emails and attend town halls, etc
