Today was fantastic, LOL. Just like every other Monday.

Every Monday is asynchronous at our ES. I thought that was standard for all of FCPS but apparently our school is just lazy AF.

Wait, that's not the standard?

It sounds like there are a handful of schools that still do morning meeting on Mondays. And there have always been interventions - so our Special Ed or ESOL kids might be having groups. People on here don't think kids who need extra help should get it.

Please show me the posts where people say “kids who need extra help should not get it”. I’ll wait.

Found this on the FCPS return website the other day: https://www.fcps.edu/return-school/reopening-schools-plan-complete-information

Look at what FCPS says it is doing on Mondays -

Monday: Independent (asynchronous) learning for all, plus supplemental specialized morning instruction for identified students; office hours, related services, assessments, and extracurricular activities may also be offered for students

Elementary: Minimum of 2.5 hours of learning, with an average of 2 hours in the core academic disciplines of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies, including cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary activities.
Middle and High: Minimum of 5 hours of learning, with an average of 3.5 hours in the core academic disciplines of English, mathematics, science, and social studies, including cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary activities.

Wow, that's a load of bullshit. I have a child with an IEP and many related services and I have asked several times if things could be scheduled on Mondays and have been repeatedly told NO, that's a teacher workday. My other two attend a school that has done no extra work for Mondays, just "finish up whatever you didn't finish last week" and a 15 minute morning meeting (that has now been canceled for the rest of the year).

Extracurricular activities?

Our school cancelled office hours on Monday. What a joke.

DS, 8, has speech on Mondays and about an hour of assigned work, that includes all of the "may do" assignments. He has 30-60 minutes of AoPS. He is done with everything between 11-11:30. He spends more time in Speech and with his AoPS work then he does his class work. Mondays really are a waste of time for him.

I get why Teachers need Mondays, especially with concurrent. They have to plan a lesson plan that works for DL, something that very few of them learned about in school, and in-person. It is hard to translate lessons plans for in-person to DL, the mediums work very differently. I do not begrudge the Teachers the day to work on prep. I am happy to hear that some Teachers are holding office hours and groups for kids.

I just wish that the work that DS was given on Monday was meaningful. That would be a great day to assign a writing assignment that the parents scan or take a picture of and email to the Teacher. Or word problems that are more logic puzzles. Something that requires a bit more creative thinking and effort that can be done off the computer.

But I am annoyed that some how my DS's 60-90 minutes of school work counts as a full school day when it is not even close.

My DC's teachers do assign this kind of work on Monday. We are clearly in the minority on DCUM (or at least of those who speak up), and that annoys me for everyone else. It shouldn't be so uneven across the county.
