| Go right ahead. I would much rather see that then Rodan & Fields or Beachbidy posts. |
| I love seeing those kinds of posts!! |
| I have so many friends on FB that are waiting for the pictures. I do not have tons of friends like some people think. It was a complete gut and Reno and design pretty much all on my own. And Pinterest haha. Also, I did a TON of DIY things as well such as recovering cushion seats, adding trim to drapes, chalk painting my granddaughter’s dresser, and sooooooo much more. |
Aren’t the ppl on your FB your friends? They already know you’re obnoxious! Post away! I personally love seeing people’s homes |
Or their annoying Peleton posts |
|
I’m on FB, not IG, but I started a separate IG page just for my home renovation. That way only people who actually want to follow along will see the pictures. I don’t cross post to my personal IG either.
It was also helpful to start that page even before our renovation started, as I follow only home design and construction related accounts there and got a ton of inspiration. It’s something IG is really good for! That being said, isn’t the whole point of FB to brag about what you’re doing? Kids sports, vacations, college acceptances, etc. Even the gourmet meal you just cooked. It’s all a form of showing off. (Again, not on FB but guessing here) |
That should say I’m NOT on FB at the top |
| What is wrong with you OP? Why are you bumping your own thread after 3 years? Is it some anniversary? |
| Get it into a magazine, Washingtonian, Veranda, AD |
| I think people like to see the before / after pics. |
| I think it's fine. |
|
No, don't do it. The fact that you are having any second thoughts about it is a sign you shouldn't.
I think 10 years ago people did stuff like this all the time and it was considered normal, but I think over time and the build up of this behavior, many people have started to see the issues with it. I try to stay away from posting anything that can be viewed as an announcement of having spent a lot of money. House renos, new cars, new clothes. Vacation pics are fine but not if they are focused on luxury items ("look at me in 1st class, look at the buter in our private bungalow bringing us breakfast, etc.). Same with weddings or birthdays (sweet pic of people looking happy, great; close up of showy/expensive feature of event, no). People on here will attack me for this but I think it's the key. Different people have different resources. The line between sharing your life and bragging about how much money you have on social media has to do with how overt the show of resources is. A pic of an expensive gut renovation of a home is too money focused, so it's a no. Have a party and people can come over and see it in a way that makes them feel they are part of it. Some might still be jealous, but it's not memorialized on social media in the same way. |
| I love seeing them but it’s absolutely true that the correct answer is to never post anything on sm. |
|
Could you do just a few before and afters of one or two particular features? Example would be - pulled out this old wet bar (here’s a picture) and replaced with a stackable washer and dryer and salvaged the bar top and made into a folding table…that kind of thing.
I think a few close-ups showing details are interesting. |
