It's mind-boggling that the "close schools forever" people ignore the ramifications of doing so. It's just grotesque.

no one wants to keep schools closed forever. people just get that things can't happen quickly now and things need to be put in place (teacher vax for ones, not all are vaxxed yet but that is happening).

and no one i've met thinks school will be closed in the fall just hibbity hibbity moms from ward 3. school might look different - masks, no aftercare; weird schedules for older kids; etc but no one thinks the building will be closed and we won't be dropping off kids.

i haven't heard one teacher say anything to this affect

i am not happy that dcps is slowing down testing in schools and i will test my kid weekly then on my own. and that sucks but i will do that to keep my community safe until kids can be vaccinated.

Note that several posts about teen suicide were removed. The suggestion from the removed posts was that school closures had nothing to do with teen suicide.

The DC government pays interns $40,000. It has nothing to do with the market. The DC government overpays for everything.

People are so clueless about what principals have been through this past year. They are the scapegoat for everything and it comes from every angle. They are blamed no matter what the mayor, central office, and the WTU do and they are the ones who have to actually put all of these terrible decisions into action. Have you heard anything from the school administrators union about refusing to show up for kids? Principals spent their spring risking their own health to deliver and distribute devices and other essential items to families, most of them have been in-person since last summer, and have worked tirelessly to do right by students, families, and teachers in the face of constant vitriol from trolls like you. If this isn’t what your principal does then I suggest you look into the many great schools that have outstanding public servants leading schools across the district. Don’t know which schools have principals who deserve 100k and more for the work they do? Just ask.

I agree, this is a stupid post OP. I personally can't imagine doing a principal's job for any less than 200k to be honest. It's a very hard, thankless job these days. We are lucky anyone will do it, and maybe we need to pay even more.

Agree. I don’t like my principal, but definitely should earn more for what they are put through!

Ummm do you know what rent costs here? Do you think people shouldn’t be able to fulfill their basic needs? Or that only people with other sources of income and family support should have the opportunity to participate in these programs.
