Maybe, maybe not. Some schools call a few days ahead if the family has a kid currently at the school. |
This sounds like an urban legend. I honestly would see no reason why a school would do that. |
The legend is that they call a few days ahead with a rejection, not an acceptance. |
Ooof. Well that I could actually see. |
| Thankfully DD was accepted into her preferred MCPS magnet a few weeks ago. So her mindset is pretty healthy going into this round of decisions. Good luck everyone. |
Well said ... |
Ours was waitlisted for the MS magnet, so it’s a different mindset in our household. If we were accepted to a magnet, we would probably have pulled our applications. |
| We are applying to 9th grade in a school NOT in the DC area. Yesterday (Mar 2) we got an email from a student ambassador saying hello, if your child has any questions, I'm happy to answer them. FYI, my background is XYZ (club activities, sports etc that sounded very similar to what DC wrote as interests). I am trying to not read too much into it. But, still spent a considerable amount of time wondering whether the school would have their student ambassadors send such an email on Mar 2 if they were going to reject us 3 days later. If this was in fact a blanket email sent to many applicants (inlcuidng those that will be rejected/WLed) that is almost cruel because it is making us hopeful... |
I just reread one of my parent essays on an application and was like "Oh I should have added *abcde*!" |
Yeah, I'm the parent who received a similar email from an admissions director (big3) a few weeks ago. A part of me thinks it's hopeful and the other part thinks it means absolutely nothing. We also heard from an extracurricular teacher at another school a few weeks ago who said she/he was referred to us by admissions to answer any questions. Again, does it mean anything? I would think my these schools would know better than to reach out if they had no interest in a kid but who knows. |
They would not send different emails. |
The main schools emailed about on here only call a few days before for a sibling if it is a rejection. If it is a sibling being admitted, they might get an earlier notification the day-of. |
| Any early notifications - good or bad - for legacies? |
Not that I know of. I do know of a Big3 that notified a sibling a day early. |
I did that ten seconds after I hit submit on one application and I was kicking myself for the rest of the day while trying to figure out how to resubmit it. |
