Ah, so that's one of the reasons why UC and UMC who can technically telework and can technically deal with distance learning are so desperate to take this much risk. Careers! |

If ya'll wanna NOT send your kids to school, fine. I don't care. But PUBLIC school needs to reopen. I know I am not the only parent who would commit to fundraising as much as possible for the teachers at my school to have as much PPE and face shields as they like despite the fact that it's the governments responsibility. When people look back upon the school closures during this pandemic, it will be judged harshly and will be viewed as an epic failure.
The teachers are about to get vaccinated. Any of them who refuse the vaccine will no longer have ground to stand on. I started out supporting the WTU earlier, and I don't think central office or Ferebee is transparent or great or frankly that capable to begin with. But now, I am done. Get vaccinated and get the ^&( back to work or find a new job. |
Agree. It’s one thing to demand full teacher vaccination (which I support) but it’s another thing to demand pediatric vaccination. That is a non-starter and has no impact on teachers. |
DP. Is this supposed to be some sort of gotcha? What's wrong with wanting to maintain a career? Do you think they are dispensable, especially for mothers? (And I say this as someone who chose to be a SAHM before Covid, can deal with DL just fine, but still thinks closed schools are the wrong policy for kids (including mine) as well as working parents.) |
God forbid people care about supporting their children! Also, careers aren't all UC or UMC. Teaching is a career, for example, and I'm pretty sure the teachers will tell you they aren't UMC. |
I, for one, will not be able to telework indefinitely. Time is running out for that. I can see being forced to go into the office before there is full in-person school. |

coronavirus numbers are already plummeting. the positivity rate in dc right now is 2.8 percent. that's very low, by any standard.
by labor day, when much of the population will be vaccinated, the coronavirus numbers here are going to be tiny. we'll be back in school full time, easily. it won't be a close call. |
| Hopefully during the summer when most of the US is vaccinated the OSSE will change class max capacity so that all kids can go back in-person. My concern is whether it will be full-time or a few hours a day. |
I’m a teacher and I can’t telework at all. So I guess you should line up child care....that’s what I’ve been told |
Kids in MS are self-sufficient. I hope they go back in the Fall but am ok with them home too. The virus is crazy. I just hope the Biden Administration gets their sh*t together so our lives can return to closer to normal. It wasn’t going to happen with Trump, that’s for sure. |
Many parents already have; few teachers have needed to do the same. In fact, they have whined at the prospect, which is rich considering it's their pretending to be able to telework that is causing everyone else (including you) to have to line up childcare. |
I am basing my statement that I will return to work sooner than school opens on the presumption that teachers won't return to work before me. But...if you are a teacher, and are going in to work, then my kid can go to school and I won't need childcare. I mean, YOU don't even need childcare if teachers go into work. What's your point? |
This. Everyone adult who wants a vaccine will be able to get one by spring or early summer. Once that happens, everyone who wants to be protected will be. Kids don't need to be vaccinated given their low risk of illness. Schools will open full time everywhere. |
What do you call "remote teaching" if not teleworking? |
I’m not remote teaching. I’m in person 4.5 days a week. |
