Will fall 2021 mean full IP classes?

What needs to happen for kids to be able to go back to regular capacity classrooms? Is it just teachers being vaccinated? Herd immunity? I’m just wondering if we’ll have to deal with some form of hybrid in the fall at DCPS. I’ve given up on my kids returning IP for this academic year.

I'm the PP. I should correct my post. We won't be back in school full time as long as 11 kids per classroom is the Dept. of Health maximum.

Low caseload, high enough vaccination rate. Vaccination of most kids 16+, and some kids 12 and up may even be possible.

With the vaccine now available for 16+ it's hard to think grades 11 and 12 won't go back IP.

They should liberalize to 20 kids per classroom at least with teachers getting vaccines.

The truth is that nobody has a clue what the fall will look like. Useless to speculate here in Feb.

Kids under 12 likely won't be vaccinated until 2023. We can't use this as the metric for returning.

I just dont see a scenario where it would be full IP classes. But they cant do what theyre doing now because if certain kids have to stick with virtual for another year or however long it will create serious concerns and inequities.

Hoping they at least increase number of kids allowed in an IP room? Up to say 20??

I'm hoping for hybrid in Fall, 2021, and then maybe full IP in Fall, 2022. If by some miracle there's a pediatric vaccine by Winter, 2021. Otherwise I'd imagine we will be in hybrid until 2023? Whenever there's a pediatric vaccine.

Note: I don't think that's scientifically the right thing. I think that's what the DMV teachers' unions will allow.

Then the DMV teachers unions need to be busted. At some point we need to start following the science and doing right by the kids, like the rest of the world.
