Will fall 2021 mean full IP classes?

There already are serious inequities with their practice of offering IPL seats by lottery. I don't think any other country has done it this way. If they had to go hybrid, they found a way to offer it to everyone.

It’s also in Bowser’s economic interests to get all kids back into school. If they do some sort of hybrid schedule in the fall then they need to provide daycare services. A lot of parents can’t afford to stay home part of the week.

Other countries are so far ahead of us when it comes to health and social services. They also place a value on families and kids, unlike here.

PP here and I agree. They consider public school an indispensable public good. I hope you are not trying to argue that the fact that they also have better healthcare excuses DCPS from finding a way to accommodate everyone who wants IPL under a hybrid model.

You will not be getting 8:30-3:30pm full in person classes in Aug, unless vaccinations are available to all adults by then and older students.

Oh hell no. My kids are going to school in person full time (they will wear masks if necessary). Even if we have to go stay with grandparents in another state, I absolutely refuse to do distance learning beyond the end of this year.

Note: I don't think that's scientifically the right thing. I think that's what the DMV teachers' unions will allow.

Then the DMV teachers unions need to be busted. At some point we need to start following the science and doing right by the kids, like the rest of the world.

+1. Really tired of this. And tired that somehow it’s ok to some schools and teachers are just fine but at our school, only one class is opening because teachers there don’t follow science. Either it’s safe or it’s not. It should be a district-wide decision. But I guess like the rest of DCPS, where you live matters to how you are educated. Complete shame. Fire them all.

Yeah my 1st grader has become extremely anxious and shy. I won’t do another year of DL. He needs to be around his classmates and friends. He’s lost so many socialization skills and it’s heartbreaking to watch.

My friend is teaching full classrooms of middle schoolers in Texas right now. She’s had covid twice now but her two kids didn’t get sick either time

Would busting the union reopen charter schools too?

Seriously. Sat today watching DCPS kids at recess and wondering if we did the right thing by choosing our charter. Stuff it union-blamers. We all know who was open today and who was not.

To get back on track I do think kids will have some IP learning but it won’t be like before. It will be hybrid.

If you don’t realize the WTU’s propaganda has influence beyond its immediate constituency, you are naive. The problem with charters is that every school makes their own decisions. It seems like that should make it easier to open, but I believe some guidance from the top is actually necessary. That’s one reason schools in other countries are actually open - because these decisions were made top down by people looking at the bigger picture. MD schools, for instance, would be universally open if the governor could mandate it. Why Bowser isn’t actually using her power here is beyond me.

We did this for this school year...it’s been fine in that the kids are in school but it’s been an adjustment squeezing us into my parents’ house and I miss our house and stuff and life in DC very much. I’m watching and hoping we can return to DC. I also don’t think my employer is going to support full time work from home for another year. As soon as the vaccine is widely available to all adults, they will demand we come back. I’m not sure where that leaves us as I cannot afford full time care for two kids if I am called back; there’s a reason we spaced our kids so that we never had two in full time care simultaneously.

are you nuts? no full classes until 2022? Do you care about education. The differnce in my kid today after just one day back in class is astounding.
