If DMV schools don't open in the fall, are you moving?

Who says people are doing this to avoid stress? It’s about the education of their children. Some people are willing to sacrifice for that.

People just aren't willing to parent their kids. I get it.

Your kids are getting an education - that mommy and daddy aren't resilient and can't hack it. And to the women out there doing too much work, either your husband is horrible and lazy or you aren't letting him participate. Your kids are learning that too.

I want to parent in a world where there is in person K-12 school & I’m going to advocate for that and I don’t have any shame in it. I strongly value education and the school as social center pedagogy (John Dewey).

Florida is cheap. You could stay in a motel for 6 months and spend far less than here. No power bill, no cable bill, just the hotel room and food while your child learns in a classroom.

I'm seriously thinking about it. I'm a single mom with a rising K student. My lease is up in August and I'm pretty sure I will be teleworking for awhile. I'm thinking somewhere in North Carolina by a beach. Not sure yet. I may decide last minute depending on what the schools are doing and what the statistics are looking like especially with many schools going back full time in Feb and the vaccine.

If we have family in areas with open schools who we can stay with, yes. But it would have to be clear at the beginning of the year. I checked at the beginning of this school year and those areas had closed schools, too.

We already moved in November to a warmer climate with in-person instruction and very very low Covid rates. Best decision ever although it was a tough move.

That sounds traumatic and fun.

No, we’re not leaving our jobs and moving out of the DMV just to avoid distance learning.

We've applied our one kid to 7 privates. Hoping one comes through but applications are way up all all schools.
Kid #2 is already in private.
Kid #3 in public and struggling but we don't have the money for more private school so didn't apply. This is our youngest kids and we love our elementary... just need in-person.

I'm thinking we may just move over the summer if things are trending virtual in June (which is when we're locked in for private tuition). It seems to be the easiest option.

Sucks for your third kid. And a good caution to others, not to have more kids than you can comfortably afford.

Lol, this! Do you really think in-person schools are worth living in a tiny FL hotel room away from everyone you know?

Kind of like it sucks for your DH who is looking at porn and planning your divorce while you judge others’ parenting skill. Poor man.

No, the real trauma is DL. Better to live next to meth whores and registered sex offenders while you sit in one of finest public school buildings Florida’s tax payers are willing to offer than to do another second of Zoom in the DMV.

Do you know why schools aren't a major source of spreading in DC? Because they are closed. Do you know why DC has better data than almost every other state? Because of closed schools, as well as closed museums, indoor dining, and the majority of people who are able to work from home, are working from home. Of course it is safer here in DC than in Florida where schools are open. Feel free to move. I am happy here knowing my family is safe. Bowser, like her or not, has kept the city safe from covid, Schools can stay closed. Schools will open in the fall, maybe sooner, like term 4.

Mommy why can’t I run at age 20.

Well you over whelmed me when you were 8 during a pandemic so we moved to Florida so you could go in person

I believed if I kept saying covid doesn’t spread in schools it would be true when 25% of DCPS cares classrooms have kids and adults w covid.

But i kept saying learning loss when I meant i could juggle my schedule and your dad was no help.

Hey with all this lack of learning loss it will be great when your kids physical exertion level is sitting on a couch. They can read and read then.

It’s a pandemic. Suffer and deal and eventually it will end
