If DMV schools don't open in the fall, are you moving?

If DCPS doesn't open in the fall are you leaving the area?
I said "DMV schools" in my post above because it actually looks like DCPS is ahead of Montgomery County and Fairfax in opening.
Throughts?

Yes. All options are already on the table for our family. The effects of the public schools’ insane behavior are going to be long-term and devastating, I fear.

No, the places we’d move to (by my parents or his) have both been fully virtual since March too. We have a private school slot lined up though.

No, I'm grateful the school system is acting responsibly to help stop the spread.

Already moved in September and glad we did. Kids have been in-person school all this school year.

OP here.
We've applied our one kid to 7 privates. Hoping one comes through but applications are way up all all schools.
Kid #2 is already in private.
Kid #3 in public and struggling but we don't have the money for more private school so didn't apply. This is our youngest kids and we love our elementary... just need in-person.

I'm thinking we may just move over the summer if things are trending virtual in June (which is when we're locked in for private tuition). It seems to be the easiest option.

New CDC study suggests this view is incorrect:

"The CDC study noted that in the week beginning Dec. 6, coronavirus cases among the general population in counties where K-12 schools opened for in-person learning were similar to rates in counties that were online only.

“CDC recommends that K-12 schools be the last settings to close after all other mitigation measures have been employed and the first to reopen when they can do so safely,” the authors of the report wrote."

Also:

"The smaller number of cases among younger children suggest the risk for COVID-19 introduction and transmission in child care centers and elementary schools “might be lower” than reopening high schools and institutions of higher education, the authors wrote."

So it seems that there should be a priority on keeping schools open, at least at the elementary level.

No. My kids are doing well and nobody would know they skipped a few years of schooling. I will offer both to move to Europe and have a school year there just for experience. They are dual citizens and I don't have to work. We'd live there for half the money.

OP here. My kids are doing "well" too but it's coming at the price of my sanity. I cannot and will not do another year of this.

The CDC regularly changes its position and yes, it would be nice to keep schools open but we'd need the entire community to get on board and help stop the spread which isn't happening. It is very risky to open schools when kids transmit covid. They recommend it be the last setting after everything else is done but most people aren't willing to go under lockdown to make that happen. Read what they are saying. When it can be safely done. The school districts don't feel it can be safely done.

I feel for your kids. We'll do it as long as we need to and I'll miss having mine at home and the more relaxed pace.

OP here.

Can we please not argue for the 15th time about whether it is safe to open or not?

JUST ANSWER the question. Do you intend to move or not? What is your plan if all is virtual?

Why are you such a jerk? Happy people don't kick others when they're down. You may say that everything is going well, but your post clearly says otherwise.

Virginia is now pushing schools to open, and teachers are getting vaccines. I have no expectation of local schools remaining closed in the fall.
