Lang Antiques (out of SF): https://www.langantiques.com/ Estate Diamond Jewelry https://www.estatediamondjewelry.com/ |
| I don't wear a lot of jewelry, but I do love pieces that have sentimental value. Although my engagement ring is beautiful (sapphire and diamonds), it sits in a box in my dresser, I do wear my wedding band (with diamonds in a channel setting) everyday. I also wear earrings every day -- usually small gold hoops or diamond studs that were a present from DH. I also frequently wear Mikimoto pearl studs that were a gift from my parents when I graduated from law school or turquoise earrings that were a wedding gift from my dad to my mom. And I love wearing my mom's Cartier Trinity ring, also a gift from my dad after her engagement ring and wedding band were stolen in a break-in of our house in LA in the '80s. |
Lang is wonderful but they prices are way too high. Always haggle with them. |
Go to resale sights such as the Real Real, Fashionphile etc.. check out the prices of used Cartier love bracelets! They hold 90% of their value. Tennis bracelets are so out of style btw. I now only ask for jewelry that are investments such as Chanel, LV, Cartier, Rolex(unmodified). My DH has given me $5000 no name brand diamond bracelets and 2 modified Rolex’s that do not hold their value. The biggest bust was when he gave me a pr of 4ct diamond studs he paid 22k from a seller on some random website that totally lied about the quality. The sec I opened the box I knew they were not the quality described. The only C that was correct was the carot weight. When I questioned the quality and wanted to return them my DH immediately said I was being a negative nelly and that they were fine so I didn’t push the issue. Fyi it was very early in our relationship so I had to be sweet still. Later when I took them to get an appraisal and showed the jeweler the appraisal that came with them, he said it was a bogus appraisal he never even heard of. I could’ve gotten 4 used Cartier love bracelets! Luckily he also gave me an unmodified Rolex and Patek Philippe watch that will hold their value. Cartier love bracelets are by far the best investments and get the highest return. I also ask for investment handbags that hold 90% of their value. I’ve done a lot of research on this and I know that if I ever need to sell things I won’t take the gas pipe. The ONLY jewelry that are investments are designer jewelry. “Flawless” diamonds over a carot are good investments as well.

| OP mentioned she wants something that holds its value. Cartier love bracelets definitely hold their value! Not some random antique no name brand crap. Her daughters will be able to hand them down and they will still be worth something. If ever in a bind they would be able to get a good amount of money for them. Try doing that with grandmas antique ruby and pearl ring. Haha I’d feel a lot better knowing my daughter could sell something to help pay the mortgage if something were to happen in the future. Like a pandemic.. |

As someone who has been passed down good jewelry, have to disagree with PPs on love bracelets. They are trendy, but their value is only in the trend.
I have exquisite south sea pearls, diamonds and other high value gems and jewelry that have been passed down to me from grandmothers, to mom to me. Some have brands, like mikimoto or asprey that have helped retain their value. But others, such as a 4ct flawless D emerald cut diamond and 6ct round Burmese ruby hold value because of the market for the gems of really high and documented quality. I can take the loose stones and do what I want with them, such as make a pendant or ring. Each generation of my family has their own style. |

Verdura.
It fascinates me that people keep pushing absolute crap like those hideous Cartier love bracelets. |
| Cartier watch or live bracelet. As much as people LOL at them, they’re on the wrist of everyone who’s anyone sorry. |

See what I mean! But no, not referring to her. |

Damn, crazy amount of vitriol for the Love and Alhambra collections in this thread. Full disclosure: I own the small love (have for years) and I recently purchased the 5 motif. I really love both.
To me, the love is sort of like the Chanel classic flap. Over 50 years olde, iconic to the brand, and frankly very well known. While both are classic, the surge in popularity in the last 5-10 years will likely date them to this era. But in reality, the surge is due to social media. I live in an affluent part of Chicago and I see them often, but not obnoxiously so. I see them multiple times a day on SM. This made me almost not want to purchase the love, but I’m glad I looked around to really understand how “saturated” these items are. OP, if you wanna get your girls jewelry to inherit, I would agree with PP that your daughters will love jewelry bc YOU owned it. If you really want to get a designer price of jewelry, I frankly would go with the VCA Perle, Flora, or Fauna lines. Those are beautiful and really fly under the radar. Of course, you need some serious cash to invest in those lines. |
