What to buy as a classic jewelry piece (Cartier bracelet, tennis bracelet etc)?

LV never full holds amazing value even when it’s beat up. I have at least 40 designer handbags or more and I buy investment bags that hold their value. Like my black birken with silver hardware. Easy 9k resale. I know I can get 6 figures for my handbag collection. I quickly intervened when my DH started buying me random overpriced no name jewelry pieces. Noooooooo! I now ask for exactly what I want and everyone is happy.

Do you mean Birkin?

It's also Neverfull (one word). I think this person knows less about bags than she thinks and doesn't actually own any of them.

Because of “recent topics,” DCUM is like the worst place ever for beauty and fashion advice. The people who find this forum from “recent topics” are the cornballs who have this weird hate obsession for VCA, Cartier, LV, Chanel, etc.

I have a Love, got it for a push present about 5 years ago, and it’s great. I don’t see them often IRL, but they’re all over the place on social media. Social media influencers are not real life. I have my late aunt’s Alhambra Set. But the pieces are way too delicate for everyday wear with small children. I can count on one hand the number I’ve noticed irl in the DC area.

Your daughters would be fortunate to have either, please don’t listen to the DCUM frumps!

How about Circa and 1stdibs? Are they also good sites?

PP who owns the love and 5 motif, I completely agree with the bolded. And I also don’t get the weird hatred of designer goods here, but to each her own.

Cartier or Rolex watch, tennis bracelet, diamond studs.
I would not buy love cartier or Van cleef, I think they are overpriced and basic.
Better look at some serious vintage jewelry from reputable antique jewelry store.

How about a lecoultre watch? Not as noticeable.

Agree with a good watch. Diamond studs, maybe tennis bracelet and/or solitaire pendant. And good pearls. Like really good Ss or Tahitian.

Go to a real jewelry store and see what catches your eye. Most jewelry store pieces are going to be better quality than a brand name and you’ll get something more unique. For something to be passed down eventually, a unique necklace or diamond earrings would be nice. Something other than studs, I recently spent an unexpected bonus that I received and bought a pair of small hoops with alternating diamonds and rubies that I love. My mom has an amazing jewelry collection including some designer pieces and the piece I’m most excited to inherit is a white gold necklace with a really unique white gold pendant with scattered tiny diamonds.

how about unbranded pearls, but of documented amazing gem quality. I have a large pair of exquisite SS stud earrings. Like liquid in luster - as good as anything you find at Mikimoto and sourced expressly for me and my specifications. Not cheap, but also not the MM markup.

Consider a tennis necklace. This is next on my list.

Don’t buy someone a watch that takes a battery as a generational gift.

Cartier Trinity is classic, matches everything and can be as casual or dressy as you want.

I wear the vca 5 motif Alhambra bracelet everyday. It’s mother of pearl. I have small kids and it holds up really well. I love vca and I’ve also pretty much never seen anyone wear it in this area.

Well I’m Indian so I’m passing down my wedding jewelry... diamonds and emeralds and rubies and sapphires... worth probably more than $200k in all. Hope they enjoy wearing them, God Bless ‘em

The women who I know with nice bracelets have the Carter Love, JUC, VCA Sweet or 5 Motif, or a bangle from Bulgari or Hermès.

I think tennis bracelets are due for a comeback.

Agreed. Tennis is also due for a comeback. It was huge in the late 80’s , early 90’s . Let’s get back to the basics.
