I think if people are happy about their schools, more power to them.
Just don't get on a thread and start bragging like only the "people in the know" send their kids their. What a joke! |
That's too bad. I hope you transfer your kid out of there so that you can won't need to complain anymore. |
It's quite difficult to switch a child out. It's disturbing to me to hear a school did not handle a situation regarding a child with SN well. I hope the poster will take things higher. It's not until enough people make a stink with the superintendant, etc that true change will come about. |
It's too bad with the budget situation that the county can't spend more to help all kids. I think Fairfax County offers a lot of programs for all kids, and all that costs money. Any surplus money will probably be going to the teacher's pension. |
The mom should probably consider private school. No public school is going to have dedicated teachers for one child. It's unrealistic. |
That's the answer always given when there is an issue with Public school.. go to private school or home school. What a load of garbage. If you think how Public School started, the level of intelligent parents then was such that ALL of them sent their kids to private school. The rest of the population needed help from educated people who started public schools and they weren't smart enough to know what rights were actually being taken away from them in return for their public school education. However, the landscape has changed and parents do know what's right for their children and parents are highly educated. We want to change an old system to fit what is relevant today. The county provides sn services, but the reality is they say one thing and do another. They get votes on what they "say" and then they get to screw the people in the trenches when they don't deliver on their promises. If they stated what was actually "realistic" for all of us instead of stating that their goal is to help all children reach their fullest potential, then maybe we wouldn't be so outraged. We are outraged because they say one thing and they don't do what they say. Everyone knows this is true. We need to join together and stop it. Complainers need to complain louder and those who aren't complaining need to support the complainers. What have you got to lose? A better education? |
I am the iep mom. Our situation is pretty unique so I don't feel comfortable going into specifics. And I totally agree with 7:31 that the "go private or go home" argument is ridiculous. It is just depressing that such a highly rated school is not servicing it's kids. |
Beautifully stated! |
Kent Gardens has an unethical principal who was involved in an expense audit situation in FCPS. Junkets and trips to Paris overshadow the FAPE for non-immersion students. |
7:31 thank you
From what I understand schools are allotted money for those children with IEPS. The issue is whether or not that money is being used to best service these children or is the administration wasting it. It is in everyone's best interest for that money to be used appropriately. It insures an inclusive classroom works and EVERY child not just those with SN get the attention they need to thrive. If you don't give a child with SN the proper supports, everyone suffers. |
I've heard this before about the principal being unethical when it comes to money. Please give the details or give me information on how I'd go about getting ahold of the audit report.
Thanks |
It used to be online under Internal Audit at FCPS. Now the older reports are not readily available so I guess you can do a foia. I read it and it addressed irregularities even in the 1990's. I suppose the earlier audit reports are also worth a foia for you. Outside firms as well as FCPS performed audits in various years. Maybe reno, brokerage accounts??? The whole thing was odd and i heard about stuff at youth sports. |
Thanks for the information regarding the audits.
There was a PTA Treasurer there a couple years back who told me certain issues had come up between her and the principal over questionable financial transactions. I'll have to check the county audits out. Thanks again |
If the principal is indeed committing unethical acts, then she should be removed.
Whatever the case, she's been there for a long time, and kids are thriving there. |
Some kids are, and some kids aren't. As they say, your mileage may vary. There are blogs for parents want to share their experiences.
