It's derived from "chosette," meaning "little thing." |
| I've never even read/seen Les Mis and that's my first association when I hear Cosette. |
|
OP here. Sigh. Ok. I guess i am on my own.
Oh wait, that’s Eponine. So, what about Eponine? Hahaha just kidding. |
|
I think it’s a pretty name. I’m not French and we named one of our daughters Genevieve.
The musical will always be popular. Just like west side story and many of the old classic musicals that are regularly revived. People will always associate that name with the musical but I don’t think people will make a big deal about it as others are suggesting. |
| Every time I her the name, I see the image of scrawny, dirty cossette. |

|
It's not a great name for a person in my opinion, perhaps you can think of another name and use that as her nickname.
|
| I think it is a bra brand |
Does anyone in France actually name their child Antoinette? Or still tied too closely to Marie Antoinette? |
| I’d go with a Colette personally. People are always going to have the negative connotation with the character in Les Mis. It’d be like naming your kid Evita or Elsa or Jasmine or Ariel or Glinda or Nala. There will always, inevitably, be in association and the ubiquitous comment of “oh, like the musical.” |
What are some examples of this? |
Shaniqua OP, don’t name her “little thing”. |
OH dear. PP obviously does not work in a majority-black elementary school. |
Or Azelma!?
|
| Remind me of corset. I wouldnt. |
