Agreed - I was the poster who mentioned Alexandria being one of the top club futsal programs in the country, and I stand by the statement based on regional and national tourmament participation and success. The dominant futsal programs come principally out of the northeast and mid-Atlantic. Most of the leaders are futsal club programs - collections of top players from DA/ECNL teams from entire metro areas - like Safira in Massachusetts, Brazuca in CT, and in this area, DC Hyper and PG Young Boys. ASA does well against this competition and is one of the few soccer clubs to actually compete at regional and national levels as a soccer club, as opposed to a futsal club drawing top talent from an entire metro area. That's why I used the term "club futsal programs," not "futsal clubs." Sorry if that was misleading. Yes, I know plenty of people will now respond either that futsal is irrelevant (tell that to the fantastic DCU players who play for Hyper or PG Young Boys) or that their club could do as well or better if they tried, blah blah blah. OK. If you've been to regional tourneys and seen the obvious talent on the courts, it is doubtful you'd say anything like that at all. |
Not sure why you are brining up the St. James, as that is not in our consideration set due to driving distance, regardless of the price or quality of the program. Alexandria futsal did not have practice players last year, nor did the information that they emailed out explain any of the pricing differential/opportunity to play in league games vs. tournaments you discussed. Instead, they merely stated that "If a player is selected as Practice Player, he or she will have the opportunity to train with the ID teams and may have opportunities to compete with the I.D team in competitions if an extra player is needed." If the additional/different information they provided is accurate, they should have explained it. Since there are only three futsal ID teams, it still doesn't sound like a great set up to me. I'd prefer my child to be on a lower level team than a practice player on an upper level one, but YMMV. |

Well there you go
Have your child play on the next level down. Problem solved You were appalled by $550 cost for "practice" player. I included St James price so you can put into perspective the going rate in comparison. If paying less than $550 to play and train with the top team does not make sense to you then play on the white team. As for information they quite literally just released their plan this past week I believe. Rather than rant that $550 is appalling and have no idea that your practice player will likely pay less why not call the office or just wait and let them post that information. Either way good luck whichever you choose to pursue |
| I assume st James will play indoors and Alexandria will play outdoors. Does anyone know the practice frequency and length of season for st James? |
|
its on their website with dates included
best i can tell it is for an in house league but no mention of local regional or national tournament play I might be wrong but I dont see much detail beyond their NCSL sponsored league |
That 04 team was comprised of 04 & 05 players. And yes, all were DA at the time. GA now. |
Or, as an alternative, they can give people the information they need. While my child had a positive expereince playing for them last year, the way they treated his best friend was horrible, so I'm not inclined to have a lot of sympathy. |
|
Let me get this straight. A soccer club provided your child a positive soccer experience. His best friend was treated horribly by the club? other players? the coach? the fans? the parents? Who exactly
And for your childs best friend you are not inclined to have sympathy. Sympathy for who exactly. Who is asking you to have sympathy for anyone What is the world are you talking about |
| My son's teammate was on their white futsal ID team last year and still has not heard about this year. What is the deal? My son tried out but I doubt he has a chance because he has never played futsal and usually does basketball. But I am wondering if they had more interest than usual, similar to my son. |
They are still trying out some of the age groups, so if he is among those ages, he should continue trying out. They usually wait to issue offers until all tryouts in an age/gender group are complete. |
No, tryouts ended last Wednesday. We knew it was a long shot since some of his teammates trying out had done this for several years, and we have not due to basketball. Honestly, my son is not super into futsal the way he is soccer, I just thought that it would be a fun thing for him to do since basketball is cancelled. Oh well. |
Our tryouts ended Wed. as well and we haven't heard anything either. I'm thinking the delay is probably due to them still figuring out the details for outdoor futsal before offers go out or perhaps they are still trying to lock-down use of all the outdoor courts they want with the city of Alexandria. |
That could well be. Fingers crossed, we will see what happens. We probably should have tried out other places as well, just in case, but I can't really imagine fitting a farther drive into our life right now, given that I have other kids. |
The offers have been sent out. I personally know kids on girls side have received the offer over the weekend. I'm sure they are on rolling basis and the offers likely were sent to those that are their 1st choice. |
