And it usually involves a person driving drunk.

The state has already confirmed that the body was discovered Sunday morning out near the crash site. The body was not entangled in the car.

This article by a local news team has more info than most of the major sources which seem to be basing their articles on a wire posting.

That article isn't the best writing, but this jumped out at me:

"On Monday, the South Dakota Department of Public Safety said Ravnsborg reported hitting a deer with his 2011 Ford Taurus to the Hyde County Sheriff’s Office after the crash at 10:30 p.m. Saturday."

I find it incredibly strange that you'd call up the Sheriff's Office and tell them you hit a deer.

+1

That's what I thought.

I've hit deer twice, both times the deer managed to flee--just clipped them and they managed to get away, couldn't find when I stopped.. My son, who drives a lot for work, has hit 3-4 and had several near misses. People do report if they want permission to take the carcass and I guess if the carcass is in the road and creates a hazard you would call--but in those cases you'd also stick around to make it easier to locate the animal. Or if you had damage to the point where you couldn't drive the vehicle. If you hit and keep on going what is the point unless you're trying to make a cover story?

How convenient that he searched the scene with the local sheriff.

The fix is in. This article talks about his six recent speeding tickets. Hmmm. I wonder if speed was a factor. Also picture of door prize at the function he attended.

His twitter. "Just got home safely." Cynical attempt to claim he didn't know he plowed into a human.

"Just got home safely ...at around 1:15 a.m." This is a bad Columbo episode if Twitter had existed then. Trying pathetically to set up a time alibi. Who says they got home safely at such and such a time on Twitter? They just generally say they had a good time at... Goes to mens rai.

$10 says absolutely nothing will happen to him. The only chance there is fallout is if the family of the victim presses the issue.

Yes, it rather makes him look totally aware of what he’d actually done.

I hope the good people of South Dakota don't fall for the cover-up. It is pretty obvious what happened.

Did you read the article? It does seem obvious what happened, when you read it. The victim drove his pickup off the road into a hay bale, wrecked the bumper, got a ride home from his cousins, inexplicably returned to his wrecked truck, and then was struck.

Who is the victim here? Certainly not the AG...this is the second time someone is referring the intoxicated driver as the victim!

The man that got killed is the victim. He was also the guy that wrecked his truck while drunk. There is no proof the AG was an intoxicated driver, there is proof the dead man was. That’s why people are saying the intoxicated driver was the victim.

and the call to the Sheriff's Department, "Gee, I think I hit a deer earlier" is appears to be another time-stamped "record" intended to dodge a hit and run charge once the body was found.

Gosh that was a horribly written news article.

So he allegedly stopped and looked for his victim at night but couldn’t see him?
