NP. No, pp is correct. You think of ALL the types of human interaction going on, the positive numbers are due to passing someone for an infinitesimal amount of time outdoors? That's nuts. Nobody's catching covid passing someone on a path from say, 2.5ft away instead of 6+. |
If you're that worried about a quick pass by someone, turn your head away and hold your breath/breathe out as you pass. |
We have to in our city. Everyone over three must wear a mask outside on public streets, beaches and parks.
The kids got used to them fast. NBD. |
+1. I don’t get the big debate either. My boys got used to the masks or they stayed inside or in our yard. I remember this same level of protestation and defensiveness when we all had to wear masks inside. All the links to cited studies and the “show me one case...” whines. You’d think we’d learn at some point and just do the best possible practice. |
Because it's 97 degrees outside. I'd sweat through a mask outside in approximately 3 minutes, whether it's on my face or around my neck. |
Sweating through a mask is more comfortable than a ventilator. Just saying... |
You are right but the mask fanatics will never admit it.
I don’t know why local govts come up with those outdoor mask ordinances. Drives me bonkers. And I am a supporter of masks inside! |
Agreed, but it's still virtually impossible to catch covid merely passing walking by someone. Indoors? Absolutely. Outdoors? Nope. |
You sweat through your clothes but still wear them, right? |
Clothes serve a purpose. A ventilator serves a purpose. A mask OUTSIDE if you're not mingling and huddle around people, serves no purpose. |
So you cannot spread covid outside? Wow. Undereducated much? |
In a pass of someone on the sidewalk or path? Nope. Show me the confirmed transmission cases, if you're so educated on the matter. |
To the person/people on here asking for confirmation of any cases from brief sidewalk contact - why? Are you epidemiologists? Have you just ignored the hundreds of scientists who have explained countless times in the media why we should all be wearing masks whenever we leave home? Is wearing a mask that difficult? I get that kids don’t like them but none of us have ever done this before. The kids (and adults) are going to have to figure out how to make some changes. Almost every news outlet has stories with actual epidemiologists PLEADING with people to understand why we need mask compliance. Why aren’t you listening? I honestly do not get it. |
I don't get why you insist on passing someone on the sidewalk close up in a pandemic? Can you explain that? If we were in a park or trail where it's not always possible to be 6 feet away we wear masks. But the only place we are going these days with sidewalks is our neighborhood. We are five months into this and I go on walks a few times a day in my hood. Never, not once, have I been forced to be less than 6 feet away from someone. If I/we see someone coming, I simply move out into the street or cross the street. It's not that hard! |
Because some of us are able to think practical and rationally. Yes, some experts suggest wearing a mask all the time when you leave home. I think it's because some people just have tremendous difficulty discerning adequate risk in different situations, so an all/nothing approach works best if people can't figure things out themselves or it brings them a lot of anxiety/difficulty figuring out situational risk. Other people are able to assess risk in very practical, reasonable situations. Indoors, especially close contact obviously. And close huddled behavior outdoors. And yes, wearing a mask outdoors when it's sunny, 90+ and humid, is very difficult. Especially since it serves no credible risk. I get that if you're been wearing masks and gloves the second you leave your home and have been doing so for months, this is terrifying. But many people have a healthy risk assessment and have been going outside every day, maskless, and know there is no issue - and combined with zero cases of transmission this way, understand common sense. |
