No, it just makes you feel like a martyr. In reality, it's utterly pointless outside. |
Psyllium. Find some. |
One thing that is for sure in this thread and others is that so many people live complete anxiety fear porn driven lives. I firmly blame social media for this. SARS 2002 wasnt like this. And before you come at me with the numbers we werent testing the volume of people in 2002 like we are COVID. Was SARS as bad as COVID, no? But 99.9% of COVID patients have mild symptoms. Shutting down our country for a year is insane and only major urban cities whose population is wealthy and typically can work from home while collecting a paycheck are fans of this lockdown. |
Forgot to add to my post, our kids need to go back to school. Our priorities are completely backwards that stores are open and schools are not. All studies indicate elementary school kids are not transmitters of the virus and daycares in this area (mine included) have now been open for weeks with no issues with all of the precautions in place. |
Don you have family that has Covid-19? I do. It’s a beast. They barely want to be alive right now, on week 7, a “mild” case. They have likely permanently lost some lung function at this point. Your need to make this a fight, using gaslighting language to belittle others is deplorably cruel. |
NP here. Wearing a mask outside does not make me feel like a martyr! I barely notice it. You’re being so dramatic! |
I hate wearing masks outside and it’s likely not helpful, but (1) 97% of cases in DC can’t be traced, so they could be from outdoor transitory transmission, we have no idea; and (2) it’s now the law in DC for the 2+ set. |
If it's not a big deal to you should sign up to be part of the vaccine program. https://www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/phase-3-clinical-trial-investigational-vaccine-covid-19-begins https://www.washingtonian.com/2020/07/27/how-to-volunteer-nih-covid-vaccine-clinical-trial/ |
It's misleading to say 97% of cases can't be traced so therefore we don't know how the virus is transmitted. We do. Tons of data point to being inside, and being in crowds. Being outside, socially distanced, is not a big cause of transmission and is considered to be low risk. |
No, "most of us" don't live in the city, and DC isn't a big city anyway. Darling? Are you able to have a civilized argument without condescension? Or are you under the impression is makes you more convincing? It doesn't. |
Well, I live in the city and there's plenty of room in my neighborhood of single family homes for people to give each other wide berths when they are walking outside, which they do. I was out this morning and only about 10-20% had masks on, which was perfectly fine with me as I didn't get within 15 feet of anyone. |
OK, not even sure where to start but... - 4 million + cases and nearly 150,000 deaths is "fear porn"? That's so insulting to people whose loved ones have died. - Not even sure what "was SARS as bad as COVID, no?" means from a grammatical standpoint, but SARS have 8 confirmed U.S. infections, and only about 8,000 people worldwide got sick. Not sure why you're making a comparison. - 99.9% having mild cases is inaccurate. It's about 8 in 10 people that have mild symptoms. Surely this is reassuring for most healthy people, and we can all be thankful that this is not a deadlier virus. I'm assuming you consider yourself a low-risk, healthy person given your nonchalance. But many people are not low-risk or have loved ones who are not low-risk, and are very scared of severe consequences from the virus. The debate on this forum is about mask wearing, not shut downs. But I have good news (you'll LOVE this since you want things to open back up!) - mask compliance can help us avoid further shutdowns: https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2020/07/23/894425483/can-masks-save-us-from-more-lockdowns-heres-what-the-science-says Happy mask-wearing! |
I've had 2 aunts (one with autoimmunity), one uncle, 3 cousin, and a sister all test positive across three cities and 2 countries. The only one that had a truly rough go of it was my aunt with an autoimmune disease and even she was never hospitalized and recovered within a few weeks. Please stop sensationalizing this diseases. I'm sorry your family member had such a rough go but the vast majority of people that get it will be fine....unless you have diabetes and then you're totally screwed. |
Huh? The order does not require blanket wearing of a mask outdoors. Perhaps take a look at the actual order. |
Same here. My family member and his partner in their 70s had mild symptoms, but both were better after a month. I do have a distant relative in another country who died from it, but she was both older and high risk (cancer survivor). |
