The thing about moderators is you don’t see what gets deleted. You don’t realize what things have been censored.
I haven’t seen comments deleted in DCUM which gives the perception of free and varied speech. Yet, I have had posts deleted here. At first I thought maybe I just posted under the wrong topic. Then, I realized after it happened twice that there is some censorship of things including real events that provoked real discussion. Now, I wonder what other things I am not seeing here as well as other websites. I would never have realized this without my posts getting deleted. |

There have been others. I like it here, and I think Jeff is generally a fair moderator, but he’s got his own viewpoints and I’ve seen done deletions I’ve disagreed with. Not common, but it happens. Often it’s a questionable post that could be considered off-topic for the thread. But generally on-topic, high-minded, civil discussions go on unabated. |

This is my analogy of dcum vs urbanbaby.
Dcum is the house of a friend whose parents make sure all the guests have snacks, drinks, approved entertainment, a clean bathroom, etc. Fun and safe. urbanbaby is the house of a friend whose parents just don’t give a d-mn. We were very neglected, but made our own fun. |

FYI you can create a log in if you want to be identifiable (as say History Mom), and decide to post some/all/none of the time under that log in. Most of us don’t do that because it’s easy to post anonymously and we value the complete anonymity altho sometimes you’ll see people explain when they posted (or if they didn’t post) earlier in the thread. |
