It's a good parsing out of what happened and why how she approached many things was problematic.

For someone who loves to dole out advice about how to be successful, she sure has a problem with accepting failure. Especially her own.

By now, some folks think I’m being way too hard on Rachel, especially since I make a living by openly discussing my own life. My hope, however, is that people understand the difference between writing with vulnerability and setting yourself up as an actual life coach.

Anytime I write about making progress in my life, I have to follow it up with the three steps (at least) that I’ve also taken back. Because that’s what success actually looks like. It’s messy and tinged with various failures along the way. We want success to be some beautiful end game but it’s really just one complex piece of the journey.

When Rachel leaves her failures out or tries to dress them up as if they’re in the past, she does no one any favors — the least of all herself.

These threads are so sad. The pure hate on these women influencers is incredible. It really takes a lot of energy to despise women.

Who cares if she put up a front when the marriage was crumbling? We all put up some kind of front, and often do that because we hope. I had the worst year of my life a couple of years earlier, but I still took great trips and had fun moments. It's not always horrible every minute of the day. Who cares if her husband is gay.

I hope they can both find a good way forward.

It's "putting up a front when the marriage was crumbling" PLUS "telling other women that if their marriages didn't work, it was just because they weren't trying hard enough"/prosperity gospel sermons PLUS shilling for money in exchange for advice to other women based on how well her marriage was going.."

If you didn't do both of the latter two, then your situation is totally different.

She profited from giving marriage advice. This woman made millions off the backs of hard working and gullible people by stealing quotes from famous people and BSing. She is a sham and sells snake oil. She is huge proponent of MLMs aka pyramid schemes.

LOL... at Eat, Love Pray-banging...Nah....she doesn't have real friends, just famous pseufriend fakery. Given how she treated her husband who was supposedly her BFF, I doubt anyone near her wants to bang her unless like like emotional abuse or want a pay-off.

Why do people buy into this BS? Influencers....I don't get it. I might follow a designer on insta because I like their photos and ideas but I don't get people following these women and expecting them to be real or authentic in any way. It's all for $$$ and you are being taken advantage of.

So I actually read her first book. It was before all of the controversy about stealing quotes and supporting MLMs.

I'm not surprised that her marriage failed. If I recall correctly, she kind of cornered her husband into marriage. In the book she basically admits that he just wanted to be FWB, and keep it super casual, but she made him her goal, and focused in. Of course he has his own voice, and could have easily ended it, but she made it sound like <if you know you want to marry someone, make that person your goal, don't let anything get in the way>.

Obviously that is not a quote, but it's my recollection of the marriage/relationship chapter. I got rid of the book, and don't care to go look it up. I did find it off-putting at the time, and thought that it was a horrible message to put out there.
