It's not your problem, nor is it an excuse to stay with an abusive spouse.

She is focusing on beginning an alternate type of lifestyle out of the “corporate economy” for lack of a better word. Sustainability etc.

Well, that's her prerogative, but it still isn't your problem.

She clearly doesn't care about your well-being, that of your children, or even her own children (or she would get a job to help support them). Why are you giving up the only important things in life -- freedom, a chance of rebuilding your relationship with your kids, and any chance at possible happiness for yourself -- for her or her children?

By not taking action to leave, you are once again choosing her over your own children.
