Were they asked to leave prior? Yes or no |
NP here and you clearly need a lecture. Protesters protest. Looters loot. Two totally different groups. And the fact remains the trump gassed peaceful American protesters for a truly hypocritical photo op. Let me say it again: the President of the United States had our US military gas peaceful American protesters for a pathetic photo op while holding a Bible. |
Do you understand the first amendment? Yes or no. |
trump’s ridiculous photo op really bombed. |
We are in a pandemic. Supreme Court has been clear that First Amendment rights time gather can be limited. Also, none had a first amendment right to incite violence. That is what these protestors are doing. |
You keep saying the protestors are inciting violence because it fits your narrative. But it's not true. The protestors and the rioters/looters are for the most part (it's hard to tell across the entire US) very different groups. |
+100. He gasses people to waddle across the park and then awkwardly holds up a bible and rants incoherently about what he's thinking. |
Were They Asked To Leave YES OR NO |
Is it possible President Trump is having a delayed reaction to all the fear he experienced the night before? He was apparently very afraid for his safety, and am wondering if now, by lashing out, it helps him to feel less vulnerable?
If so, compassion, from all sides, is called for. |
Independents aren't going to be swayed by this nonsensical show. The base might love that he finally showed up in (front of) a church, but the base was always going to vote for him anyway. |
Do they have a right to exercise their first amendment rights to protest peacefully? YES OR NO |
If they were asked to leave because the President was going to come through, and they actively refused to disperse after being asked multiple times, yes, they can be forced to leave. With tear gas. Furthermore, in a public park, they need a permit to assemble to protest. Did they have one? No. "When do you need a permit? Protests of 25 people or more on the National Mall or other National Park Service operated spaces in DC require a permit (click here to see a listing of those spaces) require a permit, as does any event that requires streets to be closed. The Metropolitan Police, because they lost an important court case, are required to allow permit-less marches in the street as long as they stay within a single lane. Demonstrations on public sidewalks are legally permissable without a permit so long as they don’t block the walkway and fewer than 100 people are expected. " |
I was thinking Trump was afraid ... that Biden scooped him. While Trump hid in his bunker, Biden showed up IRL at a BLM protest and at a church. Trump is too chickensh** to go out and face the public himself, so he figured this would have to do instead. It was probably a spur-of-the-moment thing. "I know. I'll go to a church myself. There's one across the street. What's it called? What denomination? Who cares. Lets do a quick hit-and-run, this doesn't have to be anything lengthy or planned. Does somebody have a bible in their desk. Great. Let's roll!" |
The optics are terrible. That's all that matters. Trump gassed people for one of the most inane photo ops in recent memory. Nobody cares about any of your nitpicking, it won't erase this disastrous image. |
After he had gone into the church and taken a bible without permission, when asked whose bible he was holding in the photo-op, Trump answered, "the State".
