I can't breathe . . . Minneapolis police kill a man in broad daylight

My spouse is a federal LEO. She hates dealing with anyone lower than State Police when it comes to local police. She says the Sheriffs and local PDs are full of ex high school jocks who peaked in HS and have no other decent job prospects.

I'm not saying what the officer did was right. But all the armchair quarterbacks need to think for a second how years of dealing with thugs wears you down. To protect yourself, you learn to just go through the motions of aggressive force.

I encourage everyone to go out on the streets every day and deal with the people they have to deal with while fearing for your life. It's not easy and it wouldn't be for me.

Sure it's not easy but the man was not a threat, was clearly in distress, polite, and begging for assistance. You could see from the officer's face he was on a power trip and enjoying it. There is simply no excuse for this.

It's not just that what he did was 'not right'. It was far far beyond a worn-down, frustrated cop move.

It was torture and murder. He was confident his colleagues would have his back and they did. Lord of the Flies.

He wasn’t resisting, he was begging for his life as we was being tortured to death.

I don't see how anyone can sincerely believe this cop's behavior has any mitigating factors.

This was so sad and wrong; I'm imagining the victim's family having to watch that. The PP who called it a slow tortuous execution was right.

I had been feeling like climate was my main activism realm, but after today, not anymore. It's not right that black people live in fear of this happening to them every day.

Same.

Just look at this thread. We have this video of a man being slowly murdered by a cop, clear as day, and yet there are still posters willing to make excuses.

We have video of the jogger being ambushed and murdered by a group of vigilantes, and posters wanted to talk about his outfit and "wait for the facts."

We have a video of a white woman breaking the law and threatening the black man who had the audacity to confront her with a cop-altercation. We hear her pretend to be breathless and hysterical as she cries for law enforcement to rescue her from the scary black man who offered her dog a treat. And yet posters want to know what happened before, question his motives, and stomp their feet about being called Karen.

My life doesn't matter to you. I get it. I'm so damn tired of this.

ACAB (all cops are bad). The “good” cops who wouldn’t use their position of power to be violent, racist, or corrupt are still not truly good people if they don’t stand up to or testify against other cops. fire them all and start over with much higher standards for who can become a cop.

Imagine being black in America.

Can someone provide a synopsis? What happened?

Cop has knee on neck of man. Man struggles to breathe, tells them he can't breathe, crowd pleads with cop to stop, man passes out, dies at hospital.

Cop clearly doesn't care that he is killing someone for no reason.

That’s what PD is saying. He clearly dies in the video.

Agreed

In my rarefied work environment on a secure installation where I work with AA guys, I sometimes think about what it must be like for these amazing, talented folks to be regarded as somehow second-class or worse as soon as they step off the campus. It makes no sense. So much of American life just makes no sense.

But I also get the sense that many of those good cops will protect the bad ones, as evidenced by the cop holding back the crowd and refusing to say anything to the guy kneeing on the suspect. After all, it might look weak to agree with the bystanders.

Would like to hear from police, current or former. directly.

My H is a former cop. Just retired.

Most cops are racist.

There are few really good, educated, moral, upstanding cops. Even among them, they are biased.

The good ones are outnumbered by a huge margin.

Almost none will testify against another cop.

Thank you for this post.

He resisted. They managed to cuff him, which ended his ability to resist.

He was then murdered.

Black people have been trying to tell us this a long time.
