| What an absolutely fking awful thing. And what’s important to know is that this has ALWAYS been happening, but those of us who don’t live it (aka white people) have been able to ignore it. Now cell phone videos make it undeniable. But it’s always been there. |
Most are under or uneducated. |

I refuse to watch beheading videos and I refuse to watch videos of a man executed in the US. That doesn't mean I haven't read several descriptions, though. It makes me want to cry or vomit or both. At the same time I feel helpless as a nobody in the DC area to actually have any impact on what happens to these cops or on stopping this from happening again.

What are you going to do? Police take thankless jobs. Just like prison guards. Many people in the military are not nice people either, yet they take jobs many others do not want.
For these types of jobs, you will not get the sophisticated scholar, right? What is the option? |
Systematic genocide. Still, many freak the eff out when we don't stand for the flag. |
| As an African American, this video doesn’t even disturb me. It’s to the point that it’s so natural. White people hate black people. Always will. |
If you hang out with cops you will find they are pretty dumb on the whole. That goes for pretty much any job that involves wearing a uniform. |
That’s horseshit and you know it. Are you really AA or just a white troll? |
This isn't untrue. Most people who have the opportunity for higher education don't opt for law enforcement (other than FBI). People without a degree can still have a very firm moral compass, though. Unfortunately law enforcement both encourages the type who wants power without repercussions and stifles the voices of those who object. The type of person who says "I don't care if you harass me day and night or fire me, I'll stand for my principles", is a lot rarer than those privileged to never be in that position would like to believe. |

19:15 again
Even in the FBI it's not 2nd generation privileged that sign up. |
|
Remember that old saying a lot of y'all were so fond of using, "Just comply with the officer's instructions and everything will be just fine"?
Yeah. I remember it, too. GTFOH. |
My husband was in law enforcement then joined the marine corp to angle for a better law enforcement career. He did not go back into law enforcement after leaving the marine corp and doesn't have a lot of nice things to say about most law enforcement. He thinks a large percentage of law enforcement are in it for the ability to control other people with little/no repercussions and most of the rest enable it. Actually he just said a lot of LEOs are power tripping assholes. He also holds most of them in contempt because they're also incompetent and have no business operating a firearm. |
There is something you can do. This tweet: Dr. Amitha Kalaichandran @DrAmithaMD · 1. Start with yourself(I'm as imperfect as they come): https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/takeatest.html 2. Read about #bias at work: @twiffanyjana's "Erasing Institutional Bias"& @StanfordSPARQ/Jennifer Eberhardt's "Biased" 3. Be the change 4. Know better,do better(then lead) I took the implicit bias test which finds me with significant bias against blacks, even though I work with, am friends with blacks and live in a mostly AA part of DC. Start with yourself! |
| Don’t resist cops, don’t get pinned down. |

I'm amazed that the video of a 'white woman lying to the police saying a black man threatened her life' gets something like ten times the number of comments than the video of a 'white policeman torturing and killing a black man.'
That tells me something, I'm trying to figure out what. Perhaps because this listserv is lots of white women who identify with her? Or because the Minneapolis killing is old hat? |
