It's not age; it's attitude and preparedness. They've had student representatives in the past who would have picked up on the rules and procedures much quicker than Omeish. She makes the case that a Yale education isn't necessarily all that each time she flails at trying to make a simple motion. |
He hasn't even been in the job for 3 years. |
I watched part of it. I really am stunned that no one has yet given her a copy of "Roberts' Rules of Order." She still does not understand this. I am no expert on it and kind of hate it, but the rules are there for a reason: Order. Otherwise these meetings would be a constant "free for all." You would think she could have figured it out by now. Gee, I bet you can even find an online course on it if you tried. Instead she wants to go on and on about her own views on things instead of understanding that they are there to get things done. She's still on a political campaign. |
They had orientation and were provided with resources on meeting procedures. But she's not following them, nor does it seem that she makes an effort to find out whether she has support from her colleagues before trying to influence a policy decision. When Schultz was on the Board, I could understand her offering amendments that she knew would fail, just so she could get in her talking points. But at least she knew she had to offer something specific, even when her drafting was bad. But Omeish is a Democrat on a Board composed entirely of Democrats. It's odd that she tries to derail motions or resolutions that presumably already have enough support to pass (otherwise they wouldn't be on the agenda), but she doesn't offer a friendly amendment that she's already run by other Board members or a clear substitute motion. Instead, she rambles, and then Corbett Sanders - in full mean-girl mode - either tells her what she needs to do or cuts her off entirely. |
I don't think she understood the job. She doesn't even make sense when she talks. She needs to learn that big words do not necessarily mean anything if you are not communicating your point. The point of words is communication. I also thought the Chair could have been kinder, but Omeish is not the student rep. She was elected to do a job for which she appears unfit. |
I still find it flabbergasting that the voters of Fairfax county elected her. |
First there was the Democrats' original decision to let her stack the committee with high school kids, many of whom weren't even eligible to vote in the general election (did anyone ask how they got the money to pay the FCDC membership fees). That's how she kept Moon from getting endorsed despite his seniority. Then there was the voters' decision to vote a straight-line D ticket even though there were better at-large alternatives, especially Cheryl Buford. I know people in Fairfax hate Trump and some of the far-right Republican candidates like Corey Stewart, but Buford was only slightly right-of-center. It feels like we bought ourselves four years of unfocused gibberish from Omeish when we could have done better. Maybe she'll get the hang of it eventually, but she needs to step up her game. |
