Anyone listening to the School Board meeting that is being streamed today? I can't believe that Omeish still hasn't demonstrated any appreciation for governance. When she wants to "amend" a resolution, she doesn't know how to offer an actual amendment. She just talks and expects others to translate her stream-of-consciousness thoughts into language or actionable items. This isn't rocket science, but she still doesn't seem to understand her obligations yet.
I mean, she's like 22 years old, what do you expect from a Gen Y kid?
It's not age; it's attitude and preparedness. They've had student representatives in the past who would have picked up on the rules and procedures much quicker than Omeish. She makes the case that a Yale education isn't necessarily all that each time she flails at trying to make a simple motion.
I watched part of it. I really am stunned that no one has yet given her a copy of "Roberts' Rules of Order." She still does not understand this. I am no expert on it and kind of hate it, but the rules are there for a reason: Order. Otherwise these meetings would be a constant "free for all." You would think she could have figured it out by now. Gee, I bet you can even find an online course on it if you tried. Instead she wants to go on and on about her own views on things instead of understanding that they are there to get things done. She's still on a political campaign.
They had orientation and were provided with resources on meeting procedures. But she's not following them, nor does it seem that she makes an effort to find out whether she has support from her colleagues before trying to influence a policy decision. When Schultz was on the Board, I could understand her offering amendments that she knew would fail, just so she could get in her talking points. But at least she knew she had to offer something specific, even when her drafting was bad. But Omeish is a Democrat on a Board composed entirely of Democrats. It's odd that she tries to derail motions or resolutions that presumably already have enough support to pass (otherwise they wouldn't be on the agenda), but she doesn't offer a friendly amendment that she's already run by other Board members or a clear substitute motion. Instead, she rambles, and then Corbett Sanders - in full mean-girl mode - either tells her what she needs to do or cuts her off entirely.
