Wondering if schools whose communities have adequate computers ets are lending the school's computers to schools where the families don't have adequate computers. This would be a way to ensure that all students have access. |
My school is lending out all our chromebooks. I'm sure some won't come back but, in this case, I think it is worth it. I've now connected with about 50% of my families, up from about 25% a week ago. I teach little ones, so what I can offer is limited, but I'm doing a video daily, links to other learning videos, and asking kids to do work on both our reading and math sites, and trying to have virtual face to face contact with each kid once a week. I miss my students a lot! |
You are the one lying. I did a search in MoCo Homepage and it takes you directly to the links by grade level. So either you are not a MoCo parent or you are as stupid as your post written. MoCo has also sent out letters detailing how to access the work posted. https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/curriculum/contingency/ http://bit.ly/mcpsmd-course-faq |
No the problem is you all who seem to be entitled and have no empathy for others circumstances. I'm sorry, but my smartphone is being used for conference calls etc. if some aren't using WebEx. If you don't like it, cough up the bucks and go Private. |
| Absolutely insane that all schools are sending home laptops or chromebooks or something. For everyone. I can just see the laptop carts in our school right now. This is a huge failure of DCPS. |
ERRRR. Meant are NOT sending home equipment. I give up. |
Well then access it after working hours, during lunch, or in the early evening. What is the problem? Parents will make it work if they want while others just make excuses...... I know growing up poor and on free lunches. |
Also for those middle class parents who don’t understand and can’t read in between the lines. It’s not an access issue. It’s that many lower SES parents don’t care about their child’s education and won’t raise a finger to do anything. It’s not my responsibility, it’s the teachers and the schools is a common attitude. Ask any teacher who works in a high poverty school. Of course this does not apply to all the parents but yes it’s the majority. So yes, the kids will be behind and it’s not their fault. Blame is on the parents. It is what it is. And to penalize all kids for something which no one has any control over is just messed up. |
Also have to add that the majority of lower SES families are in hospitality or retail and most likely not working. |

I love my principal.
School leader just sent an email telling us she’d manage the crazy parents- get them off our backs & that we can should keep doing what we can. |
| Have any of you who want zoom or videoconferencing actually seen how they work? Imagine being on a FaceTime call with a chat feature and 25 interrupting kids commenting “ I can’t see anything”, “how do I get to chat?” Etc etc for 50 minutes. It’s like a tech support call from hell. I’d love a big ole packet and less apps. |
Honestly, if DCPS sent home equipment, do you know how many of those laptops would be "missing" by the time school year starts? Then you all would have to deal with classrooms with only 1 computer for 25 kids. I'd rather have my kids stop learning than to jeopardize learning for years after Covid19. |
I’m so jealous; we just enable ours. |
The zoom leader should be muting the conference and calling on students accordingly while unmuting them. It’s not different that a work conference call that has > 10 people. You mute the entire call people! |
I will add that I think LIVE zoom meetings should be for middle school and up. Pre-recorded lectures are more than adequate for elementary kids and the parents can assist in evenings or weekends. I don’t think live virtual meetings should be done for kids that can’t navigate solo (maybe 5th grade and up). |
